They have a lot of common sense there in Alabama. It must be something in the water.

I'd love to know if they asked what our confidence level is for the AEA. I'll bet they didn't. LOL
That is Alabama Education Association for you non Bammers out there aka our teacher's union.

I am new to Alabama after 30 years in Oklahoma but I immediately felt at home. The people here are hard working and gracious. Their love of country has no match.

That's because those of us in the north had to beat it into them nearly 150 years ago that the nation, not Alabama, must be first in their hearts.

I was thinking the very same thing after seeing who commissioned the poll. I do recall reading recently that 80 percent of Alabamians knew about the AEA and that 61 percent had a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the AEA. Almost half believe the AEA is political and that it helps public education. Given that many are brainwashed by the many "for the children" campaigns run by public and non-profit organizations, I'm not too surprised by these numbers. If only folks would look behind these numbers to see what these teacher unions are really doing in the schools, they'd be shocked.

Actually, a fairly large number of Alabamians did not want to secede from the Union and opposed fighting for the Confederacy. The Hill folks from the North and Central portions versus the Planters from the Southern area. There was a mini "war" over the drafting of men for the Confederacy.
And if what you say is true, it's too dang bad that all the Blue Staters up North now have such low opinions of their Country and the military who serve it. Maybe we should march on up there and b-slap some sense into you Lefty Yankees?
To: republicanwizard
You refer to the illegal war of aggression by the north. Bet ya the north of today - Mich. mass. new york, pa, etc would not have the balls today. And they would never elect a Republican country boy from Kentucky to lead them.
To: Condor 63
Sounds as though the Southerners live in the real world or at least the way that it should be.

One problem as far as that is concerned IMO is that many people can't emotionally separate our teachers (most of whom are great) and the AEA.
I've talked to many an Alabama teacher over the years that will say privately the financial rewards they get as a result of the AEA aren't worth the damage that is done to education by them.
And I'd be willing to bet there are a lot of auto union members in Michigan that are saying pretty much the same thing right about now.

Maybe we should march on up there and b-slap some sense into you Lefty Yankees? I'm in as long as I can stop off in NYC and stock up at Katz's Deli on the way back....

Yer on! I'm gonna go a little further North.... I want some hot pastrami grinders, a nice Greek salad, grilled lamb with tsaziki and maybe some fried clams with bellies.
To: Alas Babylon!; All
LOL - you know you have been looted and pillaged by Southerners when all they take is food.

This old jar head thanks you for your support. My wife and I live in the south ( south Jersey ), but we look to move to beautiful Georgia in the next several months.
We have always loved the south.

Alabamian? Is that them little frog like critters, that swim around in the river, and I use to catch blue-gill on Tuesday after the blue light laws pass so I can buy some Hamms and float my skiff along the muddy banks of the river with my hickory stick pushin' on the bottom, stirrin' up muck, so that the crayfish come up, and I can grab 'em for my poboy and mayonnaise sandwiches?.... Them Alabamians?
I once went Jiggin' for Alabamians in a ditch; I caught a whole tatar bag full of the little suckers and fried them in a pan. Their little legs kicked like crazy when I poured salt on 'em but fried in batter....mmmmm mmmm good. Never had such mouth waterin' alabamians in my entire life. Fed the whole family for a week.
