The chief should have acted way before this and from what I can read he still hasn't acted. Bad, very bad. Why haven't we read about this before? Answer: Mayor Daley is a Democrat.

3 months without any charges? Its things like this that make people angry. Not that the cops were involved with the beating, but the fact that no charges have been filed despite videotape evidence.

In case someone refers to Mayor Daley as a "conservative":
From Wikipedia:
"Daley has been a supporter of gun control, with a de facto ban on handguns in Chicago [3].
"Daley is also a supporter of LGBT rights and Chicago's gay community. Chicago hosted the Gay Games VII, with Mayor Daley officially opening the games at opening ceremonies.
"Daley is helping create initiatives to increase green roof usage within the city. Chicago City Hall's own rooftop, completed in 2001, being a pilot of that program. "

Any of the real attorneys here know if this incident is grounds for a 1983 suit, since the cops waved off the patrol officers? Perhaps that makes them acting under the color of law? If so, the businessman should be talking to the Feds.

Given the official foot-dragging, I wonder if a RICO lawsuit might be in order?

Again we see the less than 1% making the rest of our police look like Nazi. Where in the world did you make up that 1% from. I'd say 99% of the cops in this country will turn the other way and lie for another cop. Ask any of them if they have ever written a fellow cop a speeding ticket.

Sorry I was talking about the felons who were doing the assault on innocent civilians.

Misbehaving and/or corrupt cops is a story as old as police forces and predates the war on drugs, SWAT or any other modern police tactic. The reason? Police work involves people, some of whom are scum.

Looking at your nick, I'm curious if you are from New Orleans?
Their police force has always had a colorful reputation.
If I'm not mistaken, Louisiana has a couple of people on Death Row for crimes committed while in NOPD uniform.

Misbehaving and/or corrupt cops is a story as old as police forces Maybe that's what the founders were thinking when they wrote the 2nd amendment. We need police and so therefore we should all have guns in case they go bad.

Are SWAT teams crooked? They are killing innocent people on no-knock raids at wrong addresses, using lying informants, and breaking into people's homes at night, putting the people on death row if they successfully defend themselves (see Corey Maye). Because of the conservative hysteria over the WOD, using funds meant for the WOT, this crap is going on.

By law and order, I mean conservative's demands for criminalization of 'libertinism' resulting in massive police intrusion into society which, thanks to WOT funding, is overflowing its banks. When the cops are thugs immune from responsibility, law and order has come home to roost.

The WOD and WOT funding give up a police force that takes the hyperbole out of 'tyranny.' I've had enough law & order from the conservatives, thanks. Right. We should use that money for touchy-feely courses for law enforcement. Or huge rehabilitation centers so meth heads don't feel left-out of society.
sniff-sniff - I feel so bad.
Or just not have cops at all. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Funny thing is that these "incidents" are occurring in Democrat led tyrannies.

SWAT teams doing dead-of-night break-ins for something as trivial as drug use, not even dealing, isn't a matter of crooked cops. It's a broken society, and we're soaking in it.

What's weird is that the "off-duty" (4am license) bar is over on Halsted, not very far away. This particular bar (also 4am license) is less convenient. The only cops I had ever seen in it under its previous management were
on duty (in uniform and not drinking alcohol).
The current owner may have (I'm speculating) here encouraged off-duty cops to hang out late at night for "security" purposes. I know his reaction, as alleged by the victims' attorney on the tube this morning, indicates that he knew they were cops and was in fear of losing his license if there was some sort of a hassle.

Or huge rehabilitation centers so meth heads don't feel left-out of society. How about if "we" don't use that money at all. Of course, I know it is really cool to have the latest gadgets and uniforms that real soldiers have and to be able to drive your APC in the Christmas parade...
