Charest now down about 700.

The Liberals have grown out to a bigger margin now.

Still nothing on CBC, but that sounds about right.

Charest's deficit continues to grow with well over half the polls in.

I'm not up on my Canadian politics quite so much, but didn't an Alberta premier win the election but lose his seat about 20 some odd years ago?

It looks like Charest is done.

Jean Charest LIB 7370 31.89%

Alberta Premier Don Getty lost his seat in the 1980's and in Quebec Premier Bourassa also lost his seat once in the 1980s. :)

CBC now has the Liberal minority, probably sans Charest.

Quebec is a conservative province, ex Montreal.

Remember Real Caouette, whom the stupid Joe Clark offended?

... with, it's getting safer to say, the Premier watching from the Gallery?

Been a while since any jurisdiction up here has seen this outcome.
PC George Drew in Ontario in 1948 is one I can recall.
However, his government got a majority & he soon returned to the Legislature via a safe seat bi-election after his loss in Toronto High Park.

With a minority, retirement's likely the most probable option?

These PQ guys are falling over themselves trying to spin this into a good night. What a bunch of maroons.

I just recalled that Caouette had passed before Clark became PM - it was Caouette's successor whom the ever-pompous Clark ticked off. Bye-bye Tories, hello Trudeau! I'm still unhappy about Clark's terminal stupidity!

The Liberals will take it by a few, and the PQ is in 3rd place. Worst result in over 30 years for the separatists if I heard right.

Is there a likely Liberal leader candidate if Charest retires? Could the new leader end up shifting the Liberal party closer to federal Liberals?

I wonder how long the gov't holds. I think less than one year and we just might see the PQ get wiped out.
