Annapolis - After intense debate Monday night, the Maryland House of Delegates agreed to let undocumented immigrants who have attended high school in Maryland pay in-state tuition at public colleges and university.

The measure (HB 6) passed 81-57, with 20 Democrats from more conservative districts joining all 37 Republicans to oppose the bill.

“We are aiding and abetting and violating federal law by people who are in this state illegally,” said Del. Patrick McDonough, R-Baltimore-Harford. “We are a sanctuary state,” he said, for illegal immigrants, with their numbers going up from 75,000 to 300,000 in just five years, according to one study.

“The vast majority did not decide to come here,” but were brought by their parents, said House Majority Leader Kumar Barve, D-Montgomery. These graduates are “just the kind of people we want here. These are decent, hardworking people.”

The State of Maryland is in a budgetary crisis but spending money to condone and reward illegal immigrants is OK with the socialists from Mongomery County. Note that the author uses the PC term "undocumented immigrants."

Then Pubbies in Congress ought to sponsor a bill banning colleges and universities from charging out-of-state tuition.

How does a person prove he is illegal? Can I just send my son the Maryland without any ID and have him enroll in college? Is the fact that my son speaks only english a disqualifier to any illegal status?

The State Of Maryland sees nothing wrong with rewarding people for breaking the law. If only law-abiding Americans received such consideration from their own government, they wouldn't be up in arms about it.

Au contraire. Utah RINOs Chris Cannon and Orrin Hatch have sponsored the DREAM Act for years. And now the Democrats are poised to take it up.

So American parents in PA, NJ, NY, DE, VA, WV-will be forced to pay more for their kids to attend college in Maryland than criminals who are not citizens of this nation.

Welcome to bizarro world...

And since it is impossible for an Illegal Alien to fill out a Financial Statement these "children" will have to get the full ride.

Well, if Congress won't do anything, some right-minded legal firm ought to look into whether a class action suit against these institutions of higher learning (snort) might be in order. Sounds like discrimination against legal citizens who live outta state to me...

From a 2003 CNN article on Oregon looking to offer in state tuition to illegals:
"Under the 1996 federal immigration-reform law, states cannot offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants unless they also offer it to all legal U.S. residents, regardless of what state they come from.

California and the other states have gotten around the law by basing their in-state tuition policy for illegal students on whether they graduated from an in-state school after a certain number of years of attendance. "

Now we need the loophole closed. But what chance is there of that?

...let's see, we had the illegals protesting of last summer, and it never became an issue during the elections in November.( some 10 weeks later)..(and who pick up the seats?).
Now with the general election coming up in "08" the spineless still refuse to protect the American public. Still refuse to enforce the laws....still push for amnesty even when shown 67% of the American public are against it.

Yes, your son should enroll as a student eligible for instate tuition. He could probably pick up a matricula card from the Mexican embassy in DC. If the school giveds him any argument, sue the school under the Equal Protection clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The front page of the Dallas Morning News today says "powerful House committee chairman to kill dozens of immigration-related bills" I am furious. How does one man go against the will of American citizens. When will someone stand up for American citizens that vote these fools into office. I will be calling his office shortly.

Illegals help expand the need for more Democrat job positions in Welfare and aid agencies, police/sheriff/prison jobs. More poverty means more federal funds.

You have to look at illegals as a necessary crop, to be grown and tended too so that the bureaucracy can grow.

Solving problems leads to layoffs.
Having said all than, now you, your spouse, your children and their children must get back to your tax slave job. Go, go. You got to pay.

So much for equal protection, let alone protection of citizens' interests...

If I choose to move to MD from out-of-state to take classes at a public university,
I have to pay a higher tuition than others who move to MD from out-of-state to take classes at a public university.

That's bad enough... but, of course, it is FAR worse when you see the full version...

If I (an American citizen) choose to (legally) move to MD from out-of-state to take classes at a public university,
I have to pay a higher tuition than others (non-citizens) who (illegally) move to MD from out-of-state to take classes at a public university.

From the article:

...undocumented immigrants who have attended high school in Maryland...

Looks like they thought of that and tailored it to only help those who are there illegally, but were in some for residents of the state.

Exactly - this is a violation of the equal protection guarantees. Someone needs to take this to the Supreme Court for an end to this travesty.
