WashPost Blogger: Tony Dungy's Religious, Just Like 9/11 Aggressors And Racists
NewsBusters ^ | 3/28/2007 | Tim Graham

Those who remember how quickly the leftists drove conservative blogger Ben Domenech out of the Washington Post blogging corps after three days (with no conservative replacement) should know that the liberal cast of bloggers remain untouched (and perhaps, in some cases, unread). I've been tipped to one Emil Steiner today, taking off after Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy for supporting a marriage-protection bill in Illinois. This, to Steiner, makes him akin to the religious folks who brought 9/11, not to mention foolish religious advocates of "racial purity, ethnic cleansing, and drinking the Kool Aid." Most importantly, Steiner thought Dungy's position showed him to be a traitor to his race:

Though Dungy's position may not constitute "gay-bashing" per se, it certainly implies that homosexual Americans are not entitled to the same rights as heterosexual citizens, much the same way as conservatives have in the past condemned mixed racial marriages in support of "family values." Moreover, the pretext of acting on "the Lord's behalf" has for millennia been used by some as an excuse for the most unholy acts, among them 9/11. Though supporters of Dungy are quick to point out he is only "exercising his First Amendment right," so too, then, are those who advocate for racial purity, ethnic cleansing and drinking the Kool Aid.

The bottom line is that by disenfranchising a group of citizens because of his religion, Dungy is essentially placing the values of church above the rights of the State. Even though he is entitled to that opinion of inequality, the government is not entitled to act upon it. And while, as some have said, Tony Dungy's Super Bowl triumph illustrated how black people are capable of anything white people are, his comments seemingly reinforce that discrimination is among those capacities.

As much as Dungy beat my beloved Bears in the Super Bowl. He is a class act in my book.

This is an unimaginable concentration of dumb. I don't see how something this dumb doesn't collapse in on itself and form a neutron star of dumbass. Let me show you, using the same logic, how I am just like Hitler:

-Both Hitler and I ate.
-Both Hitler and I enjoyed a beer now and then.
-Both Hitler and I wore brown shirts.
-Both Hitler and I had mustaches.
Yep, that's me, just like Hitler.

Mine too! I've followed Tony Dungy since he played for the Steelers. You can't find many better role models in sports than him.

I got his autograph when he was the DC with the Vikings. He was talking to some people, and signed his autograph with a warm smile, and a "your welcome". I always remembered that.

In the so-called "mind" of the liberals, your comparisons are not too far off. And these jerkwads broadcast the news, teach our children, and donate million$ to Democrat operatives. And in fact, many are Democrat operatives.

Excuse me but weren't most of the mixed-race marriage bans part of the Jim Crow laws, brought to us by democRATs?

One can look at the officially athiestic regimes of Cuba and Zimbabwe to find anti-Black and anti-White racism that eclipses most or all other forms of racism everywhere...

Well, let me try to be classy too. I'm a diehard Packer fan, but part of me found it hard to cheer against any team led by Lovie Smith. He is also a class act. Two great coaches, two real men.

That said, I hope we wipe the walls with you both times this season. :-)

I've heard rumblings that Dungy has a book coming out this summer. I hope that's true. I love the guy.

He'd make a very interesting guy to oppose Obama, but he just doesn't seem like someone who would get involved in a political race.

He's a class act.

Those were Southern (and Northern) Democrats, not conservatives! Remember, the Democratic Party is the party of: KKK, Jim Crow, The Confederacy, Copperheads, Robert Byrd of the KKK, Dixiecrats, slavery, segregation, Selma, interning innocent Japanese-Americans, and much more...

The funny item at the end of Brit Hume's program yesterday featured Dungy. He was in a car getting directions how to drive safely down a street after the area got 3 inches of rain...he follows the directions but his car disappears into an unseen sinkhole.

Brit reassured viewers that that hadn't actually happened.

I don't believe that anyone ever opposed mixed marriages in order to preserve "family values".

I think that is an outright lie.

Well, I'm sure that somebody at some point denounced miscegenation as a great social evil. However, unlike gay marriage, they were several states where it was never illegal for people of different races to marry each other. Gay marriage was illegal in every state and I believe in every country until recently. Laws against mixed marriage were a product of racial prejudice, while same sex marriage is a direct challenge to the institution.

Later Two-fer pingout.

And the insanity gets more insane. Now holding a viewpoint about homosexuality that agrees with the Bible (and, coincidentally, every single other monotheist religion and some that aren't) is immoral and should be illegal.

These people need to be put back in the closet.

"However, unlike gay marriage, they were several states where it was never illegal for people of different races to marry each other. Gay marriage was illegal in every state and I believe in every country until recently."

It's beyond even that. Since the time of Justinian, marriage was legally defined as between a man and a woman. It was beyond unthinkable until very recently to redefine marriage to include homosexual couples.

The author has an obvious logical fallacy:
People opposed one change to marriage based on discriminatory beliefs, and they were wrong then. Therefore, opposition to marriage changes are wrong today and we must be wide open to redefinign marriage.
Such illogic could be used to call opposition to polygamy as 'discriminatory' and wrong.
