Free Obama's White Grandmother

Free Obama's White Grandmother Andy Martin Wednesday, March 28, 2007

CHICAGO -- If anyone else running for president locked his granny away and refused to allow her to be seen, would the media complain? You betcha.

But America's media have supinely allowed Barry Obama to pretend he has no white relatives. He has paraded his step-grandmother in Kenya, who never saw him until the 1980s, as his "granny," and locked the grandmother who actually raised him away in a closet.

Now, the Chicago Tribune reports "the Obama campaign declined to make [his white grandmother] available."

Is she sick? Not apparently. Bedridden? Hospitalized? Not apparently. She is the "Prisoner of Obama," and of Obama's racist myth that he is "Black" and not "Black and White."

What a disgrace.

And like whimpering puppies the media do not protest, complain or demand access.

Free Granny Madelyn Dunham [Obama]!

Story Continues Below

Barack Obama is one of the most racist politicians in America today. And we let him get away with it. We are afraid to confront Obama's reality, so we pretend that reality is not there, even though it is staring us in the face. Anyone remember "Miss Lillian?" Or Barbara Bush? Or Bill Clinton's mom, drinking, gambling card-playing gal that she was?

Noone else but Obama could get away with pretending that his paternal grandfather's second or third or fourth wife was his "granny" when she wasn't.

Maybe that's the core of the antipathy between grandson and grandmother. Maybe that's why Obama's white grandmother is locked in purdah. She is offended that Obambi shamelessly highlights his black relatives in Kenya and, equally shamelessly, pretends his white relatives in Hawaii who actually raised him do not exist. It would hurt me.

No one could get away with pretending his white grandmother didn't exist except a media witch doctor such as Obama.

I have been attacking Obama for months because of his racist exclusion of his white relatives from the campaign trail.

We finally smoked out a picture of Obama's sister in the Chicago Tribune. She had said she was his "adviser" but refused to be photographed. Did she plan to enter the White house with a paper sack over her head?

But the "segregation" of Madelyn Dunham, Obama's white grandmother, and only real grandmother, has to be one of the cruelest and most mendacious political kidnappings this nation has ever seen.

Mrs. Dunham lives alone in the same apartment where she has lived for many years. Thus, it is reasonable to assume she is not incapacitated or an invalid.

Granny Dunham told the New York Times she was not well enough to speak, but in reality the Obama campaign maintains Stalinist "control" over potential interviewees. Obama's minions tried to control access to Obama's friend who was recently released from prison. Since he became a candidate for U.S. Senator, Obama has locked his white relative away in his racist closet.

Madelyn Dunham raised Barry Obama. It was probably her money that got him admitted to the prestigious Punahou School in Hawaii and paid his fees. Her efforts were formative, perhaps even more so than those of Obama's mother Ann, Madelyn's daughter. And yet Madelyn is being hidden away.

All because she is white and Barry Obama is a "black" candidate for president.

What a lie. What hypocrisy. What cowardice. And this man wants to sit in the Oval Office?

Ironically, locking Madelyn away is going to hurt Obama more with African-Americans than with whites. Whites delight in drinking Obama's Kool-Aid. Reason and reality will only gradually descend on them.

But blacks are a lot smarter than whites when it comes to slights, because they have experienced racial slights all their lives. Blacks know who Obama is, and they know how he is trying to "pass" and ignore his past.

During the decade when crack devastated the African-American community it was the "Black Grannies" who were and are the backbone of the community. These grandmothers helped stabilize disintegrating families ravaged by drugs. Black grannies will not like the fact that their white counterpart is being treated badly by Obama.

Black and white grandmothers? My guess is they will stick together on this one. They will be offended by the way Obama is treating the woman who really raised him and was the stabilizing factor in his life, Madelyn Dunham.

I repeat: Free Granny Madelyn Dunham [Obama]!

The people complaining that the media is "lying" by calling Sarah Hussein Obama Barack's "grandmother" are actually the ones who are saying that their view and terminology for family is the only valid view and the media should identify his family by their standards. You are directing your complaints to the wrong person.

If Obama identifies her as his grandmother, she's his grandmother. If a man identifies his adoptive mother's step father as his grandfather, that's his grandfather. Family bonds don't need special qualifiers and aren't trivial just because they don't come from blood. A family in which no children are related to each other or their parents is still a family full of brothers and sisters with a mother and a father. And no one should be chastized for excluding "steps" and "adoptives".

This sets a new low for Newsmax.

Where is the information that proves this is Obama's idea?

How do we know whether or not Obama's white relatives want to be a part of his campaign anyway?

Invectives are slung, based on opinion, with nothing to support them.

Certainly, I dont want Obama to be President, but this article smacks of what you can find any day on DU or Kos.

Totally unfair and beneath this forum.

Obama's white grandmother, and only real grandmother

Uh, he has to have two. But she'd presumably be the only one living.

A stepfather who never raised the child and only became a stepfather after the child was grown, would not be a "real father" no.

Tell me where I'm wrong (Like you guys wouldn't be happy to!). But wouldn't that be kind of a good thing for Obama? Maybe when they get behind the curtain, people who might not feel entirely comfortable voting for a black man might do so if they knew he was half black/half white. Does his true status make him a pariah in the black community? I'm confused as to what the downside is here.

Historically, white against black racism was targeted at anyone who had any black blood. Plessy of Plessy v. Ferguson was only 1/8 black, yet the laws of Jim Crow applied to him just as much as if he were 100% black. A white person who hated blacks, would, in all likelihood, refuse to vote for Obama, white mother or no white mother. I don't think that being only 1/2 or 1/4 black makes a difference to whites- the few who are still racist would hate him anyway and the majority who are not would not care about the color of his skin. Of course, being non-white I can only speculate.

For blacks, in general, oftentimes someone who is half black and half white is looked at with a degree of suspicion. There is a fear that someone who is only half black will run away from their blackness, so there is a lot of pressure placed on someone like Obama to associate with blacks and disassociate from whites in order to be accepted by the "black community". Contrary to the last lines of this article, sadly I think that if Obama associated mostly with his white grandma he would have an even harder time gaining black support. It is black racism and insecurity that fuels this attitude, IMO, but it is the current reality.

I was always under the impression that she was very close to her mom. When she won the Academy Award, her mother was prominently seated in the front of the auditorium and, through her tears, HB acknowledged her. It was touching.

All the other dem candidates were raised in this country can you tell me exactly what they are proposing that is of any real value for this country? His white grandmother live in Hawaii is elderly and from the pictures on this thread looks to have had a two way loving relationship with her grandson. I don't think he's hiding her I think if he is the nominee he'll win Hawaii anyway. Question his policies if we ever find out what they are leave he and grannies relationship alone.

"That's because he's trying to pass for black"

Unless it's near March 17th, then he hauls out the bones of his Irish great-great grandfather...

Why, this would be like Bill Clinton locking away his black grandmother...

Well. . .he did successfully hide his 'black son'. . .if one is inclined to believe he has one. . .

If you were an elderly woman, would you be thrilled to leave a gorgeous tropical island to hit the campaign trail? Doubtful.

Would if they could. . .they would beat a path to her door. . .

Check out this Chicago Sun-Times article where they try to pawn a bogus pic giving you the impression he's posing with his real Grandmother.

The answer may be in another question. . .did they retract their error and offer the correct id of person in picture. . .or offer one of his 'real' Grandmother? (. . .probably we can guess the answer in one try. . .)

My respect for this guy just dropped from slim to none. If he is not enough of a man to show public gratitude to those who raised him and gave him the leg up that got him where he is, then he's not man enough to do the right thing as president.

It would disenfranchise more black voters than white. . .Not 'going there' is the better political calculation.

I was always under the impression that she was very close to her mom. When she won the Academy Award, her mother was prominently seated in the front of the auditorium and, through her tears, HB acknowledged her. It was touching.

Hardly. She cried because ~as she said~ she was the first African American actress to win the Best Actress award.

With tears streaming down her face and gasping for breath, Berry dedicated her award to all the African-American women who had struggled before her to make their way in Hollywood.

"This moment is so much bigger than me. It's for every nameless, faceless woman of colour that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened," she said.

BBC News

It was way back in 2002, but I'm trying to remember if she even ~acknowledged~ her mother. I remember at the time thinking she was gushing about her paternal heritage while all along it was her white mother in the audience, not her absentee father.

Say what you like about Denzel Washington, but his acceptance speech was much more classy. He acknowledged Sidney Portier, but didn't gush about it.
