Okay. . .typically the 'real' here; when 'step' is introduced; is to who was in fact; the reality in the person's life. Often it is the 'step-parent' who IS in fact; the real parent; by virtue of their presence in that child's life'; and a real parent's absence of influence. An adoptive parent is unquestionably the 'real' parent versus the 'sperm-donor'. . . In Obama's case it IS his REALl his blood Grandmother who raised him; so she earns the title on both counts. The black Grandmother is not authentically 'real' as a 'Grandmother'; as she did not even know him until recently. . .never raised him as a Grandmother; or influenced him as a Grandson'. . .
Names mean things; and so do titles; and they are earned. . .
Click on the pick. I took the caption straight from the caption below the article's photo. No correction or retraction. However, the text of the article itself reads, "...his Kenyan grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama..."
I will correct "myself" however. I should not have implied the photo was not "of" one of his real grandmothers. It wasn't until after I posted that particular reply that I later read other articles (w/photos) that identified that woman as Sarah Obama. My mistake.
"It was way back in 2002, but I'm trying to remember if she even ~acknowledged~ her mother. I remember at the time thinking she was gushing about her paternal heritage while all along it was her white mother in the audience, not her absentee father."

"I want to thank my Mom who's given me the strength to fight every single day to be who I want to be and given me the courage to dream that this dream might be happening and possible for me. I love you Mom so much."
"Barack" spelled backwards is, "kcarab". "Kcarab" sounds like "carob". Carob is fake chocolate. ;)
Ah, thanks for that, I do remember it now. Odd that I found an edited version of her remarks.
Still, Mom was certainly not the main focus.
Where's his white mama? Dead?
Surely more to the truth of the matter. . .
Most of the time famous people when pictured with a steprelative it's identified as such.
I had 2 stepgrandmothers growing up. Was close to both of them. Called them borh Grandma Firstname. I was lucky to have 4 grandmas growing up (sadly only 1 grandfather lived past my 5th birthday)
But they were a big part of my childhood not someone I met when I was in my 20s.
IF it would help his campaign he'd probably make one up.
Or if his parents are no longer married by either his mothers death or a divorce he'd buy off his dad to marry a black woman.
You're absolutely right. There's a huge differnce between a stepparent who married the real parent when someone was a child and one when the child was an adult. And also a difference in age of child when the parent married.
My parents were divorced when I was 4. My Dad married my stepmother was I was 7 and my mom my stepfather when I was 8. So they were a huge part of my childhood.
But my husband's mom remarried when he was 25. While he loves and respects her second husband and the kids call him "Grandpa Bob" it's a lot different.
The kind of crude and juvenile Obama bashing that this article represents is pretty much immune to facts.
Besides, this particular low-blow is win-win. If Obama ever insists that his grandmother be available for interviews, he'll be "trotting her out in a racist attempt to pander to white voters." And if he doesn't so insist, he's "hiding her in a racist attempt to pander to black voters."
"Finding oneself" is the task of early adulthood. Obama apparently doesn't feel "black" enough at this stage of his life.
Sad.
Does Grandma see her great-grandchildren ?
If Granny Obama is out there, Hillary and her HINO will find her. Her secret police are still in operation in case you hadn't noticed.
Yeh. And if it had been a white grandfather they could do the slave-descendent thing.
And I wouldn't give a flying xxxx.
I looked it up. Apparently, Barack Obama used to be known as Barry.
Oh. . .thanks. . .guess I need the 'photo-album tutorial' - again.
Will go back and start over. (Easy to see how all this is slipped around, for sure. . .)
Nope, there is no bias in the press. the press is objective and treats each candidate equally..
