Having a Republican President is all that stands between us and a grim future

I disagree there. I think the whole system is rotten. A grim future is ours unless major reform occurs. But the reform is not possible even with a sympathetic president, because of the fractured nature of the country and the disparate interest groups. America is set for a fall unless something major happens (and that something major probably won't happen until the fall).

In other words they will vote for a loser if he or she supports their social beliefs.

As opposed to voting for a loser who shares little of the core beliefs or values that denfine us from liberals? Get real! No to Rudy!

Before you take your principled stance on abortion, gay rights and gun rights and flush the Country down the liberal toilet consider the future if we let principles blind us to reality.

So we should flush our principles down the toilet to elect someone with an R next to their name, even if he IS a liberal? 6 of one, half-dozen of another, if you ask me.

Hope you have your flame proof suit on. I expect that pissant and his anti-Rudy crew will storm in here with torches and pitchforks at any moment.

A liberal with an "R" by his name is still a liberal.

Wake up.

I urge you to take a look in the mirror when you say that. Defense and reaction is a loser's game.

Fred Thompson is the most conservative electable Republican.

I think he'll run and I think he'll win.

My sentiments exactly, although I am not sure that Fred Thompson would be a loser if nominated. I think he would stand a decent chance, unless Hillary's private investigators can find something to do him in.

"I like Rudy Giuliani....The Evangelicals he loses will be more than made up for by crossover Democrats."

Cool, sounds like you don't need us then. Good luck. Spit.

"The Evangelical Right is too immersed in the righteousness of social issues to deal with the hard facts of financial and international issues."

If the Republican party decides to do without us, that's fine. Best of luck next election.

"In other words they will vote for a loser if he or she supports their social beliefs."

How about nominating a conservative for the R ticket? They tend to fit right in with the "Evangelical Right."

LOL. So you want to vote for someone who mirrors the lib position on those issues. And you tell "us" to get real.

No thank you.... I will not vote for Rudy or McCain under ANY circumstances. And before you rehash old ground of "not voting for Rudy is a vote for..." remember that the GOP has a CHOICE.

Either put up a CONSERVATIVE both social and fiscal or don't get the Christian conservative vote.

MAYBE the GOP can abandon it's base and reach out to independent voters and gain enough votes to make up for the loss of Christian conservatives.... OR MAYBE, the larger voting block is with the Christian Conservatives ... more than what is available by the independents. Remember, it's not VOLUME of voters, it's ACTUAL voters and Christian conservatives will crawl through broken glass to get out their vote. Can you say the same for someone who does not even want to decide on a party? I don't think so.

The truth is, winning elections is about turning out your base ... not abandoning them for the hope of some independents.

Well, if you're suggesting that abortion, gay rights and gun rights should be waived issues, you've lost your marbles.

I like Rudy Giuliani.

If you like Rudy, you aren't making some "pragmatic" decision to support him.

Don't ask anybody else to support a candidate they don't like.

"I like Rudy Giuliani."

So what. This conservative (and his family) will NEVER, EVER, vote for your pro-abortion candidate. See ya.

The previous two presidential elections were extraordinarily close.

And what does that tell you?

It tells me that the Republicans better stop running conservative lites and put up an actual conservative.

And no, George Bush never was an actual conservative.

First you say this:

We have to get someone who can convert a few blue states to red while holding the red states.

And then you say this:

The Evangelicals he loses will be more than made up for by crossover Democrats.

The two statements are direct contradictions.

Beyond that, ever hear of the term Reagan Democrat? Many were pulled over not by Reagan's pro-abort stance, but by his pro-life stance. Santorum won two Senate seats in a blue state until the Dems ran a pro-lifer. In addition, the further left you go in the electorate, the stronger the anti-war sentiment gets. Rudy simply will not be able to make much headway running leftwards.

The solution is to find someone at the center of the party to hold it together.

Now on to your next nonsense:

Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter and the others are at noise level in the national polls

Fred Thompson polled 12 percent without even entering the race. Rudy plummeted 13 percent at the same time.

Methinks you tried to pull a fast one to sell your used car that has a bad alignement problem - it keeps veering leftward into oncoming Democrats.

The Evangelical Right is too immersed in the righteousness of social issues to deal with the hard facts of financial and international issues.

The evangelical right backs horses like Ted Haggard and gave us Dubya, one of the weakest presidents of the modern era. We need to start looking past their better judgment.
