New York City plans to move ahead with a test of a program that would pay poor families for good school attendance and other achievements.

The program is based on one in Mexico but would be the first of its kind in the United States, The New York Times reported. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in an announcement at a family services center in Brooklyn, said Thursday that 2,500 poor families would be selected at random for the program, and their progress would be compared to another randomly selected group of 2,500 poor families

Reading the headline, I instictively added to it "to move out". I was mistaken.

I know it's different for everyone, but for some reason, this is the article that has convinced me we may be on an irrevocable slide.

I reached that point long ago. I thought it could not get any worse but I was wrong.

Laura Ingram was talking about a school district in New York that is requesting that teacher's be required to learn "BEV" which stands for Black English Vernacular which is really just a fancy name for ebonics. This school district even has a language diversity coordinator.

P.S. I wouldn't mind the payment for going to class though if it was retroactive. I didn't miss any days from kindergarten through high school.

They've been rewarding the poor with cash for decades. It hasn't worked and, of course, neither do they.

Give this, oh say a year.

Then it will be the biggest and most corrupt program in America. Supporters of Democratic candidates will receive thousands in cash for going to school every day. Of course they don't go to school every day but how easy is this to fake?

There will be lovers and friends of politicos and their families will get cash for good report cards.

It doesn't matter what the original intent of any of these feel-good programs is, almost always you will have corruption any time you authorize one human to give cash to another. Especially with this loosy-goosy bunch of nonsense.

And they do this in Mexico, do they? Well right there is a country that we can model our own level of corruption and strive to achieve more.

Bullcrap. This is all bullcrap.

They already have an incentive, it's called a "job." This appears to be an incentive to NOT work.

Good Morning Nancyvideo,
I agree. Please add the side dishes of saw-dust and dead sewer rats to the main course.

Getting paid for breathing and doing what normal children do every day. (attending school)

Sounds like another HBO-HSO-HIO program to me.

The difference between a communist and a liberal is that a communist knows what they are in life.

Respectfully,
NSNR

I say, give the government schools enough rope...they're hanging themselves quite nicely and need no help from conservatives. The more nonsense they advocate, the better. It serves to make school choice a great option /alternative.

classical liberal backassward mentality. lets see, you go to school, and you get nothing (but a crappy "diverse education"). you dont go to school, and they pay you. hmmm, wonder how well thats going to work?

why do they always reward underachieving? and effectively punish the ones who are doing what they can to improve themselves

The program is based on one in Mexico

The day we have to emulate Mexico on matters of social engineering is the day this country officially becomes terminal. Main flaw: marginal utility. How much you have to pay a relatively pampered member of the leisure class compared to how much you pay a dirt poor mestizo.
