"U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Damascus next week for talks with Syrian officials, a U.S. Embassy official said Friday, making her the highest-ranking American politician to come to Syria since relations began souring in 2003.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said Pelosi would be leading a delegation of members of Congress and would arrive on Tuesday and leave Wednesday."

Maybe she'll negotiate with Assad. After all, all we have to do to get peace, as history has shown again and again, is negotiate. Or at least that's the talking point and shibboleth of the Democrats.

I wonder if Pelosi remembers that the constitution gives foreign policy decisions to the Executive.  I'd much prefer that the President, elected by 53,000,000+ Americans handled foreign policy, opposed to a peon elected by 148,435 San Franciscans.

We recalled our Ambassador to Syria for a reason, and quite obviously she is working against the game plan.

She should go to Tehran instead. She apparently likes those folks better than American soldiers.

When congressmen go personally on these little visits it's a good bet they do so to get their palms greased.

I'd add that all foreign trips by any rep needs to have the Presidents approval.

We don't need the MSM telling us how much more peaceful this trip will make the world, and how much more effective Nancy is vs Condi....

Maybe we can renounce her citizenship, and she can stay............

AMMOUNT: $500 on June 28, 1996

* Nick Rahall :

While [Joe] Wilson was pursuing his foreign investment ventures, he also served as a foreign policy advisor to the 2000 Presidential campaign of Al Gore. A company the Gore family had a long-term relationship with, Occidental Petroleum, shared business interests with Alamoudi-affiliated companies in Africa and the Middle East, and employed as Vice President for Middle East business Odeh Aburdene,24 who shared a complex network of relationships with Rock Creek’s Elias Aburdene and Joseph Wilson--notably, all three contributed to Arab-American Congressional Caucus leader Nick Rahall,25 who supported Muslim lobbying groups linked to terrorists and opposed military action in Iraq.26 Abdurahman Alamoudi also contributed to Rahall, and sat on the steering committee of Arab Americans for Clinton/Gore '96 along with his associate James Zogby, who later advised Gore’s 2000 Presidential campaign.27 Wilson had worked as an aide to Gore from 1985 to 1986 and had developed a friendly relationship with him. Rene Moawad Foundation:

The Rene Moawad Foundation was founded in Lebanon in 1990, to further the life-long dedication of the former President of Lebanon, The late Rene Moawad, to the principles of dialogue, social justice, peace and tolerance. His wife, Nayla Moawad, a member of the Lebanese parliament, heads the foundation in Lebanon and serves as its Honorary President in the United States where it was incorporated in 1993. The bulk of the financing for the Foundation’s projects are made possible through private donations, while the remainder through the support of other foundations and international organizations, such as the European community, the French Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, the national Endowment for Democracy, (USA), United States Agency for International Development, as well as through some official state aid.

As Lebanon copes with the enormous task of rebuilding a nation devastated by sixteen years of civil war, the Lebanese people are struggling to survive amidst great economic hardships and inadequate public services. The Moawad Foundation is a non-profit, humanitarian and developmental organization devoted to the improvement of the quality of life of the individual in Lebanon and to the building of an cohesive and democratic society. Toward this end, the foundation strives for social justice and socio-economic development. Through its humanitarian assistance programs and its socio-economic development projects, the Foundation aspires to contribute to the building of a peaceful and prosperous Lebanon.

Through the civic education programs undertaken by its subdivision, the Center for Research and Education on Democracy, CRED, the Foundation aspires to promote social justice and the democratic process in Lebanon. The Foundation promotes the social well-being and economic independence of the Lebanese people by ministering to their basic needs for health care and social services while providing them with tools for educational and economic development. * Abdul Rahman al-Amoudi : The American Muslim leader charged with smuggling $340,000 out of Libya was suspected of funneling cash from Osama bin Laden to blind Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman in the failed 1993 attempt to blow up New York City landmarks, The Post has learned. The shocking revelation about Abdul Rahman al-Amoudi, a wealthy Saudi scion arrested Sunday, means there were suspicions about his terror ties long before he became a politically connected activist rubbing elbows with U.S. politicians and training Islamic chaplains for the U.S. armed forces. - "EXCLUSIVE-SMUGGLER LINKED TO BIN LADEN," by MURRAY WEISS, New York Post, 10/01/03

* Abdulrahman Alamoudi : Special Agent Brett Gentrup of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unit of the Department of Homeland Security cites a transcript of a telephone call in which Alamoudi discussed the tactics of a 1994 terrorist operation against a Jewish center in Argentina that took 86 lives. "Even though we are very sorry for the death of the innocent," [Abdulrahman] Alamoudi said in support of the attack, "you have to choose the target so as not to put the Muslim in an uncomfortable position." - "Alamoudi and Those Bags of Libyan Cash," by J. Michael Waller, Insight, 10-13-2003

Gentrup also said a transcript had been uncovered in which [Abdul Rahman] Amoudi criticized al Qaeda's selection of terror targets. Amoudi said too many Muslims were killed in attacks such as the 1998 Kenyan embassy bombing, the court documents claimed. "I prefer to hit a Zionist target in America or Europe or elsewhere," Amoudi said, according to the court documents. - "EXCLUSIVE-SMUGGLER LINKED TO BIN LADEN," by MURRAY WEISS, New York Post, 10/01/03

I absolutely do not understand why the Administration allows this crap to go on. She is trying to subvert Bush. The President and the rest of the elected Republicans had better grow a set fast.

Don't know about Kerry, but Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) went to Syria and met with the terrorists last year. He's a traitor.
