Forbes: Social Issues Won't Derail Rudy
Human Events Online | March 30, 2007 | John Gizzi

Posted on 03/30/2007 2:53:04 PM PDT by poisonivy27

The most high-profile national conservative leader to endorse Rudy Giuliani for President so far insists that the former New York mayor's non-conservative stands on social issues such as abortion won't derail his candidacy in the Republican nomination process next year.

"I've met with several social conservatives and they are leaning strongly to Rudy," said Steve Forbes, publisher and two-time GOP presidential hopeful, who has just come out for Giuliani for President. Although he said he couldn't give the names of most of those he has talked to who are poised to join the Giuliani bandwagon, Forbes did cite Joel Rosenberg -- evangelical Christian, best-selling novelist, and a veteran of past Forbes campaigns -- who was prepared to join Giuliani's campaign team. In Forbes' words, "He thinks Rudy's the real deal, as do at least two others I'm talking to. Giuliani will have a [conservative] team in formation."

If the Republican Party wants Rudy to be their candidate, they don't want to win, and they don't want my vote.

"I'm not willing to throw away 200 years of history because I disagree with a candidate on two or three issues."

Even if those issues are fundamental to the Constitution and liberty? You most certainly ARE willing to throw out all that history... as long as the liberal you elect is your liberal.

The 1st and 2nd Amendment is not a mere few issues.

"It looks like conservative Republicans are willing to give Rudy a pass on his less than strict conservative social politics, rather than face a Billary White House for another 8 miserable years.

"So am I."

And so the downward spiral continues: The Republican Party sitting just behind the Democratic Party, having its legs locked around the Democrats' waists as they go down the slide into liberalism, socialism . . . and libertine-ism.

. There was never even a consideration on our part to vote for the man.

Add me to that list. I will not vote for Giuliani under any circumstances.

So, you think 4 or 8 years of Hillary would be better than Rudy?

I think eight years of a liberal Republican is worse than four years of Hillary. There is no way to stop a liberal agenda when it is pushed by a Republican. A Giuliani Presidency will guarantee the GOP will lose seats in Congress. A RINO with shrinking GOP minority in Congress is about as bad as things can get.

Wow. Lucky Giuliani. Compromising another one of his "values" got him a lovely little endorsement.

Before: I am totally against the flat tax.

After: Gotta love that flat tax!!

Great non answer. Hope this isn`t to "over the top with rhetorical flourish" but, A) Who do you think Sara Brady is going to support, Hillorat or Rudy? and B) Who is going to protect America the best, Hillorat or Rudy?
Pretty simple questions. (A lot of us have defended the Constitution)

Look at all the issues that you differ on with Rudy and , I hope you realize that Hillorat is much further to the left on each and everyone. Then look at leadership, taxes, law and order. Given these points, if it comes down to Rudy vs Hillorat, my choice is very clear.

I own/operate a gunshop, so Sarah Brady can kiss my pimply butt.

Hillary and Rudy are equally dangerous to America, the Constitution and decency. Pretty simple answer huh? Rudy Giuliani is Hillary with testicles, although he does look better and more comfortable in a dress.

If you have defended the Constitution then you understand how insulting it is to have someone WRONGLY accuse you of hurting the country by voting based on an objective standard (the Constitution).

"Look at all the issues that you differ on with Rudy and , I hope you realize that Hillorat is much further to the left on each and everyone."

At best, they're about even on those issues. In fact, Rudy has a worse record on at least one.

"look at leadership, taxes, law and order. "

It matters where "leadership" leads and Mr. Ignore-The-Law Rudy is no "law and order candidate".

"Given these points, if it comes down to Rudy vs Hillorat, my choice is very clear."

All you have is your fear.

Pretty simple questions. "

A) Who do you think Sara Brady is going to support, Hillorat or Rudy? - Both.

B) Who is going to protect America the best, Hillorat or Rudy? - None of the above.

"(A lot of us have defended the Constitution)"

You support a man who holds it in contempt.

Hillorat and Rudy today are the leading candidates for Potus. Real world time, if they are the nominees, who gets your vote?

I think the social issues have *already* derailed Giuliani.

Why else the press conference to try to patch the hole in his deflated campaign?

just blame fred for even *existing* as an alternative - looks like rudy's conservative support was mighty thin.

sorry rudy - you would have lost to the hitlary anyway.

Wonder who is going to get the support from Sara Brady?

Might as well be Rudy, since there is no difference in their views.

If the Republican Party wants Rudy to be their candidate, they don't want to win, and they don't want my vote.

The Republican Party will nominate whoever wins the primaries...the one who gets the most votes...the most popular one...etc, etc, etc.

If you don't approve of the candidate, then something is wrong with YOU - you're in the wrong party. Start your own party. It's your duty as a party member to go with the majority of party members. Until you can sway a majority of party members of your views, you're SOL.

Everyone complains about the makeup of the electorate and blames them or the party instead of themselves. If things are beyond your control then you had no power in the first place. If you really care, then gain some power by making a difference. Don't expect THEM to come to YOU, especially if you're in the minority of the party. You have to run a grassroots campaign to get your minority viewpoints approved by the majority.

This is a largely democratic political system. If the majority of party members would like a particular candidate to run, they will run whether you like it or not.
