Iran Frees Detained British Sailors

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran on Wednesday freed the 15 detained British sailors and marines in what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called an Easter gift to the British people. Prime Minister Tony Blair said he bore "no ill will" toward the Iranian people. Iranian state television said the 14 men and one woman, who were seized while on patrol in the northern Persian gulf on March 23, would leave Iran on Thursday. An Iranian official in London said they would be handed over to British diplomats in Tehran.

Ahmadinejad's surprise announcement came at a news conference shortly after he pinned a medal on the chest of the Iranian coast guard commander who intercepted the sailors and marines.

"I'm glad that our 15 service personnel have been released and I know their release will come as a relief not just to them but to their families," Blair said outside his No. 10 Downing St. office. "Throughout, we have taken a measured approach, firm but calm, not negotiating but not confronting, either."

Blair added, "To the Iranian people I would simply say this: We bear you no ill will."

No bets on that one. You hit the nail on the head. Our enemies will be eternally greatful to the MSM for their contribution to our demise.

Did the Iranians send the sailors to the tailor's shop first? The lady got ripped off, the guys are all in nicely tailored suits and she's....

You're right! Those suits are fabulous. They look to be Italian with an Armani flair.

I guess they didn't issue them ties so they wouldn't be tempted to hang themselves.

Musta been too many U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf...

Yup.

Maybe they read FR, and heard that the drop dead date would be Good Friday.

Notice how they are all dressed like Ahmadenejad - suits but no ties.

That's official Iranian regime "fashion" since years. All non-cleric, non-military officials wear dark suits, while rejecting ties as "western capitalistic". Many don't even wear collars with their shirts.

Diplomacy works and that is why a Democrat should be President and why Bush is a cowboy.

Manipulation of the voters, just as in Spain.

"Pelosi went to Syria. Coincidence? The MSM will now report that it was Syria talking with Iran that led to the freeing of the hostages. Diplomacy works and that is why a Democrat should be President and why Bush is a cowboy."

It stinks. But you are right.

There should be a bunch more careers DOA.

I am totally disgusted.

It’s 1937, and Europe doesn't’t see it yet. Many in the US refuse to see it. Britain is not heroric here, they have not gained but have lost.

The next time they might just as well turn belly up and surrender without even a harsh word.

A glimpse into the mind of a psychopathic megalomaniac - he kidnaps 15 people and when he releases them calls it a "gift."

Kinda reminds me of calling a reduction in a spending increase a "cut"...

I think Ahmadinejad brilliantly demonstrated that he can do whatever he damn please, and the West is impotent to do anything about it. Expect bets to go higher next time. Osama was correct on the strong/weak horse paradigm. As long as we are perceived weak, it does not matter how far backwards we will bent - we are still the bad guys. When we are perceived strong, we will be able to get away with applying a heavy hand now and then without a complaint from locals. Its that cynical.

...in what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called an Easter gift to the British people.

WHY would the murdering thugs of the so called religion of peace, which does not recognize any other religion other than their own murdering religion, give any gift at the time of year so holy to Christians?? WHY?? B.S. is what this is.

Interesting that he said people instead of government...

Look at Sax's post

After a closer look at this one, I can only see three (on the right). I've seen other shots (maybe different angles), IIRC, the two in the back were not all smiles either.

Nancy Pelosi is about to learn a hard lesson: Syria doesn’t want to negotiate on even terms with Israel or anyone else

I disagree. She won't learn anything. None of this is new. If she and her co-conspirator Democrats in congress were capable of learning anything from dealing with the arabs and terrorists they would have learned it a very long time ago.

I firmly believe that nothing, absolutely nothing, will teach the liberals anything in regards to terroists and despots.

3,000 people MURDERED on American soil and in a few short years the Dems are just shy of denying it even happened.

So the lack of a British declaration of war on Iran makes us a useless ally? What about the nearly two hundred dead British soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan? It’s hard to dispute the left wingers who say that America is just using us when so many of you play into their hands.
