Texas Senate- Pro-Khomeini imam prays anti-Jewish, anti-Christian prayer

An update on this story. Imam Yusuf Kavakci, like Husham Al-Husainy at the Democratic National Committee winter meeting in February, echoed the Fatiha, the most common prayer in Islam and the first sura of the Qur'an -- a prayer which has been traditionally understood as condemning Jews and Christians. And Kavakci followed its wording more closely than did al-Husainy, referring to it explicitly.

"Texas Senate prayer excludes Christians: Pro-Khomeini imam seeks protection from 'those who have lost the way,'" from WorldNetDaily.com, with thanks to all who sent this in:

A controversial Texas imam who at one point participated in a "tribute to the great Islamic visionary" Ayatollah Khomeini, has offered a prayer to open the state Senate that excluded both Christians and Jews.

"Oh, Allah, guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way," prayed Imam Yusuf Kavakci of the Dallas Central Mosque....

The imam introduced what he was going to do: "We will pray by reading from first chapter, opening chapter, Al-Fãtehah, from holy Quran, followed by recitation, traditional way of recitation of text from holy Quran, with an addition."

The he prayed:

In the name of god, Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. All praise is for Allah, our lord, the lord of the worlds, the compassionate, the merciful, master of the day of judgments. Oh, god, Allah, you alone we worship, and you alone we call on for help. Oh, Allah, guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way. Our lord, have mercy on us from yourself and guide us in our efforts, strivings, and works."

Officials said a recording of the prayer was available at this link by clicking 'You can hear the opening ceremony, including the prayer, here.'

The Fatiha asks Allah: "Show us the straight path, the path of those whom Thou hast favoured; not the (path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray." The traditional Islamic understanding of this is that the "straight path" is Islam -- cf. Islamic apologist John Esposito's book Islam: The Straight Path. The path of those who have earned Allah's anger are the Jews, and those who have gone astray are the Christians. The classic Qur'anic commentator Ibn Kathir explains:

Allah asserted that the two paths He described here are both misguided when He repeated the negation `not'. These two paths are the paths of the Christians and Jews, a fact that the believer should beware of so that he avoids them. The path of the believers is knowledge of the truth and abiding by it. In comparison, the Jews abandoned practicing the religion, while the Christians lost the true knowledge. This is why `anger' descended upon the Jews, while being described as `led astray' is more appropriate of the Christians. Those who know, but avoid implementing the truth, deserve the anger, unlike those who are ignorant. The Christians want to seek the true knowledge, but are unable to find it because they did not seek it from its proper resources.

This is why they were led astray. We should also mention that both the Christians and the Jews have earned the anger and are led astray, but the anger is one of the attributes more particular of the Jews. Allah said about the Jews,

[مَن لَّعَنَهُ اللَّهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَيْهِ]

(Those (Jews) who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath) (5:60).

The attribute that the Christians deserve most is that of being led astray, just as Allah said about them,

[قَدْ ضَلُّواْ مِن قَبْلُ وَأَضَلُّواْ كَثِيراً وَضَلُّواْ عَن سَوَآءِ السَّبِيلِ]

(Who went astray before and who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the right path) (5:77).

It isn't just Ibn Kathir. Most Muslim commentators believe that the Jews are those who have earned Allah's wrath and the Christians are those who have gone astray. This is the view of Tabari, Zamakhshari, the Tafsir al-Jalalayn, the Tanwir al-Miqbas min Tafsir Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Arabi, as well as Ibn Kathir. One contrasting, but not majority view, is that of Nisaburi, who says that "those who have incurred Allah's wrath are the people of negligence, and those who have gone astray are the people of immoderation."

Here’s the babelfish translation:

In the name of god, Satan, the beneficent, the merciful. All praise is for Satan, our lord, the lord of the worlds, the compassionate, the merciful, master of the day of judgments. Oh, god, Satan, you alone we worship, and you alone we call on for help. Oh, Satan, guide us to the broad path to hell, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way. Our lord, have mercy on us from yourself and guide us in our efforts, strivings, and works.”

Indeed

And did no one walk out? No one spoke up? Who is it that said

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing?”

What part of “Death to Israel, Death to America” causes us to even remotely believe there is a chance of peace as long as they abuse oxygen?

Amazing. And the spineless chickensh*ts in attendence kept their mealy little mouths shut, didn't they?

Deplorable. Absolutely deplorable.

Exactly. I have been “preaching” this to the Republican Women’s Club I belong to; encouraging them to SPEAK OUT!
Some are beginning to. Enough. If Americans don’t wake up, the America of our founders will disappear.

Our enemies have to be laughing their butts off at US.
If you want to further you cause in the US, just attack them. The PC police will see to it that our cause is further enhanced so we won't be offended.
We declare that we are at war, so to combat the enemy we drop our borders and jail those who try and protect us from invasion.
We then elect the first of our enemies to the House of representatives (I believe it is).
We make sure that the religion of our enemies - the one that teaches them to hate US - is taught to our children in our schools.
Now we have our enemies hold prayer in places of government.

Yes sir, they have got to be laughing uncontrollably.

It takes a scholar like Robert Spencer (Jihadwatch.com) to deconstruct Islam, to tell us what this Islamic prayer was really about.

I respect and admire Spencer, but with or without him, all Americans need to inform themselves. I can’t wait around for someone else to tell me what something means. The idea that one must wait for a scholar’s interpretation is what ask the imam is all about. ;)

The only “Imam” I trust enough to ask is Robert Spencer. He knows Islam much better than the real ones. And won’t give you any shuck and jive taqiyya!

The Democrats loathe Christians so its just as well they look favorably upon an Islamofascist cleric.

Except in the case of the Texas Seante, the Senate is controlled by majority Republicans, under the leadership of a Republican Lt. Governor, and this Imam was invited by a Republican Senator, Sen Shapiro.

And for those of you who don't know, "Shapiro" is a Jewish name. I hang my head in shame that someone of my faith - AND a Texas Republican - could be so incredibly stupid and naive. What's next, a round of Kumbaya before some ritual beheadings?

These people act in the mold of Gandhi. He believed that the Jews of Europe should have gone placidly to their deaths, confident that peace would prevail.

And we all know how BOTH the Jews and Gandhi met their ends.

I’m more a Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition type.

Sen. Dan Patrick was the only one to skip this spectacle. Of course the Houston Comical tried to ridicule Patrick for doing so. They have been trying to portray Patrick as a right wing nutcase like they did Tom Delay.

She's actually proud of having given him the forum, and defends her action as an all-American expression of religious freedom -- ignoring the fact that this man's religion seeks to destroy all others!

See her statement, issued yesterday.

Plano Republicans should be made aware of this.

From Shapiro's website:

"The Freedom and Justice Foundation contacted me with the request for Dr. Kavakci to follow the protocol set 2 years ago during their legislative day, when Imam Moujahed Bakhach of the Islamic Association of Tarrant County opened the Texas House with a blessing. Having worked with Dr. Kavakci on legislation, and seeing his resume and extensive inter-faith experience, I honored his request. He represents a substantial constituency of Texans who deserve to be represented.

Our country prides itself on freedoms, the most relevant today is freedom of religion. In our blessed country, everyone is free to pray according to their religion; and allowing a Muslim to express his freedom demonstrates what we all have in common in the United States… we are all AMERICANS!"

How unbelievably naive. Yes, freedom of all types is our ideal, and I'd never seek to deny another person the freedom to practice their religion...until that freedom interfered with mine or someone else's. The fact that this guy said,

"...Oh, Allah, guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way. Our lord, have mercy on us from yourself and guide us in our efforts, strivings, and works."

shows without any doubt that he does NOT share Shapiro's or my ideal of freedom of religion, particularly insofar as we Jews are concerned. He is a religious bigot - simply because he could have delivered a far more peaceful and open-minded benediction. He could further have condemned all those of his religion who have engaged in, plan to engage in, or who simply WANT to engage in violence against non-Muslims simply based on the fact that they are non-Muslims.

Shapiro is a hopeless blissninnie. If this guy and his co-religionists got their way, she'd be among the first on the chopping block - literally. A big-mouthed female Jew isn't going to last long under Sharia law.

Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.

The logic is very simple to me. The Muslim Jihad is worldwide and wants to destroy Israel.. So why would any Jew seek to go out of her (his) way to score brownie points with Islam? In this case by inviting this Imam to give the morning prayer at the Texas Senate. Why would any Jew do that? In this case it backfired, not that the stupid Jewish woman who invited him cares or even wants to know. She undoubtedly still thinks she did the right thing, the ecumenical thing.

While reality is this Imam made Muslim prayer that is very disrespectful to Christians and Jews. Probably delivered in Arabic to help fool the stupid infidels.
Just imagine a Jew or Christian delivering prayers to the Texas Senate that are anti Islam. We would never hear the end of it

You could also think of it as a self-cancelling prayer. “...guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way....” An Islamic prayer for the conversion of Moslems from Islam.
