As nation faces a grave threat, Pelosi assumes presidential power
The Baltimore Sun ^ | April 5, 2007 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 04/05/2007 12:38:01 PM PDT by flutters

Congressman Tom Lantos, who is a member of the delegation that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi led to Syria, put the mission clearly when he said: "We have an alternative, Democratic foreign policy." Democrats can have any foreign policy they want - if and when they are elected to the White House.

Until Ms. Pelosi came along, it was understood by all that we had only one president at a time and - like him or not - he alone had the constitutional authority to speak for this country to foreign nations, especially in wartime.

All that Ms. Pelosi's trip can accomplish is to advertise American disunity to a terrorist-sponsoring nation in the Middle East while we are in a war there. That in turn can only embolden the Syrians to exploit the lack of unified resolve in Washington by stepping up their efforts to destabilize Iraq and the Middle East in general.

The old idea of politics stopping at the water’s edge is clearly a thing of the past. That was a sort of a minimum necessary to have a country. The impression I get is that the United States is no longer a viable country and needs to be split up somehow or other.

Such gratitude from someone of the origins he claims. He hates the very Country to which he owes very his existence and prosperity.

The Democrats have attempted to implement a Parliamentary system of government by breaking down the separation of powers of the three branches and trying to bring the other two under its control under the guise of “Congressional oversight.” Never before have they been quite this blatant with Bela Pelosi acting as “shadow President/PM” and flying over to a country listed as a state-sponsor of terrorism.

At this rate, we are headed to at least “Second World” status. The Dems must want it that way. That way they can have their little Kingdoms.

“Today, Ms. Pelosi and the congressional Democrats are stepping in to carry out their own foreign policy”

Do the people writing these articles not realize there is a Republican in her ‘delegation’ and that three Republican members of the House met with Assad the day before Pelosi did?

The more I read about this woman the more I think she should be slapped in irons upon her return and tried for treason.

The impression I get is that the United States is no longer a viable country...

What we are witnessing here is the rise and fall of nations. The Roman Empire lasted 800 years. The United States will be just a faint memory in the dustbin of history long before that at the rate we are declining.

“It has been said that the world ends not with a bang but with a whimper. But who would have thought that it could end with political clowning in the shadow of a mushroom cloud?”

That’s fairly ominous.

Sowell nails it:
That these political games are being played while Iran keeps advancing relentlessly toward acquiring nuclear weapons is a fateful sign of the utter unreality of politicians preoccupied with scoring points and a media obsessed with celebrity bimbos, living and dead.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, bimbo.
