ROKER SAYS TIME FOR IMUS TO GO
MSNBC ^ | 4/10/07 | Al Roker

Posted on 04/10/2007 8:38:39 AM PDT by teddyballgame

I cannot tell you how many people have asked me about my thoughts on Don Imus. As a student of broadcasting, I know Don Imus was one of the original “shock jocks.” I listened to him growing up in New York City in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

He is a radio icon.

That said, it is time for him to go.

I, for one, am really tired of the diatribes, the “humor” at others’ expense, the cruelty that passes for “funny”. Don Imus isn’t the only one doing this, but today he’s the one in the hot seat.

What he said was vile and disgusting. It denigrated an entire team and by extension, a community and its pride in a group that had excelled.

Al piles on. I don't blame him. I'd like to see Imus off the air. He's been running this schtick for years and has finally gotten called on the carpet.

This press conference from Rutgers live on Fox is really turning into a Panderfest.

If Imus or anyone else isn’t stirring up the water the MSM would just find someone else to do it.

Why couldn’t this have been Howard Stern? How do you think Stern would have reacted?

Yeah, the Catholic/Jew/Religious Conservative bashing was funny, but say the word “nappy” and you’re outa here!

I don’t really give a fig. He’s a shock jock. He does what he’s paid to do. All this fury is over....what? 3,000 people killed by airplanes flying into buildings? No. Iran’s threat, no, make that promise to destroy Israel and the US with nukes? No. Nancy Pelosi and Denny Hoyer meeting with terrorists, perhaps cutting deals with them? No. Stuffing state secrets into undies and socks? No.

This entire media riot is over someone making an idiotic comment that means literally nothing. Something those same girls no doubt have called one another many times over. Something far less insulting than what Chris Rock says in his standup routines.

And meanwhile, Iran continues to plot and build; the ‘Rats continue to plot and leak national secrets; the terrorists watch and take notes: “Look, Ahmad, these Western fools are more concerned about political correctness than their futures. They will be easy to destroy.”

Someone needs to stuff this entire topic into the silly file.

Just curious, did Don Imus invent the term “nappy headed hos” or did he learn it from somewhere?

Stern has Robin to run interference. (It’s the only function she really serves.)

If you don’t like him, at the least tune him out, at the most, write a letter to the folks who pay for his show.

I wonder how Roker reacted to that Coach giving a speech when she referred to some people as “FAT”?

Anyone else catch that? I thought that was a word that couldn’t be said too? Did I miss it’s reinstatement or something?

“Hos” entered the vernacular through it’s common usage in the rap and hip hop world.

Wow! And I thought I was getting frustrated over the Imus bashing. Easy does it. Imus will land on his feet no matter what.
