CBS Will 'Do the Right Thing'
Newsweek ^ | 4/11/07 | Johnnie L. Roberts

April 11, 2007 - Media mogul Sumner Redstone says he's looking to his chief lieutenant, CBS Corp. chief executive Leslie Moonves, to “do the right thing” when it comes to deciding whether to fire Don Imus, the CBS Radio star shock jock now being whipsawed in a storm of racial controversy.

“He'll make the ultimate decision. But I'm confident he will deal with it in an appropriate manner,” Redstone, the chairman of CBS parent company Viacom Inc., said in a phone interview with NEWSWEEK from his Beverly Hills home . His comments come as MSNBC announced it is dropping its daily simulcast of the “Imus in the Morning” radio show, amid furor over Imus' racial slur against the Rutgers women basketball team and the news that major advertisers are withdrawing support for the show.

Redstone's remarks could pressure Moonves into firing Imus (”do the right thing” is an oblique comment—and the title of a Spike Lee film).

It does not look good for Imus even at CBS. I confess I never though this would go this far.

If they fire Imus, will he let his has-been sidekicks live on his ranch?

Imus should’a been fired years ago for being an idiot.

Imus has more money than.....well, you know.

As a lefty, he’ll take care of Don. And his “friends” will be left to fend for themselves.

That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I read the title. What a tease.

When has CBS EVER done the right thing? Isn’t one of the definitions of insane to do the same thing expecting different results? Same CBS...same results, insane to expect otherwise.

I wonder if Viacom owns any record labels, particularly rap music of the “nigga, ho, bitch” genre...

“Imus should’a been fired years ago for being an idiot.”

I agree, but not for his idiotic comments. This whole lynching is total PC hysteria, and even if it starts with an indefensible creep like Imus, where will it end? Who’s next?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viacom

It appears they are parents to MTV and BET, where the whole culture uses words that Imus has fallen victim to.

Kind of hypocritical don’t ya think?

You would think that every Rap artist and Producer who have used such language for profit, while reflecting the culture they helped create, would be fired also.

And yet no one in the MSM has bothered to point this out.

Rappers will never suffer anything that resembles 'punishment' for the culture they have helped create.

Remember [almost] all rappers are minorities, and as minorities, by definition can not be racist.

So despite their influence on the current culture their ENDLESS utterances of garbage lyrics like HOs-BITCHES-ETC-ETC will never be considered in the same league as IMUS's 7 sec rant.

I’m tired of trash-talking - period - whether it be Imus or anyone else. Decency over the airwaves - It’s high time.
