Basically, she’s a mess. I don’t think that should excuse her from paying the penalty for what she’s done, but between the backlash that prosecuting her would cause here (the “community leaders” would go nuts), and the fact that at least some of the families don’t want her indicted either, I guess the Powers That Be have decided it’s not worth it.

Look, I guess I'm an instigator by nature, but if I were in charge I'd not only prosecute her for obstructing justice, I'd DARE the community leaders to get uppity...and any civil unrest or rioting that resulted from their words and actions would be there sole responsibility, and I'd have every rioter that I could get my hands on arrested and charged. Every last one.

This was not the first time this woman leveled charges that were subsequently found to be unsubstantiated. People like that are just as much a danger and should be prosecuted, IMO.

****Here is my prediction: this girl will not be able to control herself; before the weekend is up, she will be all over TV, making her case.

Sharpton and Jackson will help her get a book deal.

Lots of crazy people get prosecuted. Why not Crystal? What are they afraid of?

Crystal is not being prosecuted because:
she knows too much,
Durham is totally corrupt,
Durham’s leaders want to keep it that way,
the AG is scared to death of offending the black community of Durham.

It is no accident that they waited for a cold rainy Wednesday to make their pronouncement.

I am not sure that we will never know what happened that night. Although it was demonstrated that no student’s DNA was left in the woman. That distinguished group of scholars may have had other methods of play in mind. I would not judge the woman too harshly.

LOL, OK, yeah, sure.

I don’t think it’a the weather. I think it’s coming on the heels of the Imus controversy, sorta under the radar, or that’s what they hoped.

I hope they do get their money back, I hope they sue Nifong, J. Jackson, A. Franken, anyone and everyone associated with this lynch mob. And that is what it was, a lynch mob.

If you're right....

..and in light of the 'hands off'/forgiveness attitude from the DA and the parents...

...then she should lose ALL protection and be hauled in, cuffed and jailed afterall.

No AG in his right mind would make an announcement like this on a Friday afternoon with temperatures in the 80’s. IMO

The elephant in the room: Only half the DNA samples have been analyzed. In that batch up to 9 different donors were uncovered although not all complete samples. Could that add up to 18 different donors?

The other elephant. The missing police chief. The elephant that didn’t bark.

How long do you think this girl is going to sit around hearing people just as good as say she’s crazy?

I doubt very long.

Tick tock...

I agree with you; don’t you usually charge somebody and THEN let their lawyers say they’re crazy?

I’ve certainly never heard of it being done this way; it’s backwards.

I had a different take. I think she realized when she was “dancing” for the rich white boys she had an opportunity to accuse them of rape and file a civil suit against them for big bucks. Even if the criminal charges couldn’t stand because of a higher standard of proof, she’d get a big payoff from the parents of the students, as others have before her - get the accusation on record and make some big bucks for yourself. When she realized that it wasn’t just going to be he said/she said and that there was real evidence that disproved her story, she found herself in real trouble. I think this whole “batshit crazy” woman is a smokescreen to keep herself from a criminal indictment for false charges and a lawsuit for slander.

I know I’m cynical, it’s what working in the law biz will do for you.

I agree. I think she should be prosecuted, but quite probably, the AG (remember—he IS a Rat, and he DOES have his sights set on higher office someday) doesn’t want to rock the boat. If CGM was brought up on charges of lying to the police, there would be a national crapstorm over it—Al Sharpton would take time out from attempting to destroy free speech in America to denounce the unfair, racist justice system in North Carolina, Je$$e would be marching in the streets of Durham proclaiming loudly that it’s 1961 (or, hell, maybe 1861) all over again...you know. Roy Cooper and the Powers That Be down here are not going to put themselves through that. They’re intimidated. I don’t think they’ve got the stomach to go after her.

Locally, at this point, everybody is in “let’s forget this ever happened” mode. The “community leaders,” the Duke University community, pretty much the entire Durham/Triangle area. They all want it to just go away. It shouldn’t go away. Not until Crystal Gail Mangum and Mike Nifong and the “community leaders” and the Gang of 88 and Al and Jesse and Nancy Grace and all the others who tried to railroad those three young men are forced to apologize for it. But it sure doesn’t seem like anybody’s got the strength left to push for that.
