[BREAKING] N.J. Gov. Corzine Hurt In Car Accident
WBZTV.COM ^ | 12 APRIL 2007 | AP

(CBS) GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine was injured Thursday night in a car accident on the Garden State Parkway, but a spokesman says the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine was elected governor of New Jersey in November 2006, soundly beating Republican businessman Doug Forrester in a race that set records for campaign spending but alienated voters with its mean-spirited politicking. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Corzine had 53 percent to Forrester's 44 percent.

And it looks like there’s backtracking on the seatbelt now...Forbes.com is now reporting: “Fuentes and Ross said it was unclear whether the governor was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.”

pressofAtlanticCity.com:
"The governor does not usually wear a seat belt, a law-enforcement official who is close to the investigation told the Associated Press, but it is unknown whether he was wearing one at the time of the crash.

However, when the freeway median abutment slams smack into your passenger door, it is possible to be thrown to the opposite side of the car, and to have your sternum, collarbone, ribs and leg broken.

God be with anyone who faces such an impact.

It’s not illegal. They broadcast on a public radio frequency so anything heard on the frequencey is fair game. New Jersey doesn’t run that many helicopter jobs, and they only have two choppers: NorthStar and SouthStar. It’s pretty easy to figure it out in this case.

His chest slammed into the dashboard at speed, and his femur snapped as his legs shot forward. This was a very high speed impact - I'm thinking they hit the rail at 55 mph or more.

And don't be surprised if he dies. The airway is only about the diameter of a pencil. When the chest hits something, the air in the lungs has to go somewhere, and it can't go out the airway. Lungs rupture. They may also be punctured by the ribs. The impact may also bruise the heart. Blood vessels in the chest may pull apart from the stress. Then there's the open femur fracture, which frequently leads to infection.

The complications that can arise from these injuries are life threatening without the actual injuries. He can bleed to death from any number of vessels, lose the ability to breathe, or lose the ability of his heart to pump. Whatever happens, Cooper University deserves accolades for keeping him alive this long. If he lives, it will be an achievement.

If he does live, he will be incapable of governance. For one thing, he won't be able to move due to the rib fractures, and he won't be able to turn his head for the next year or more. If he regains consciousness, I expect him to resign in the next few days. That is, if he lives that long.

Based on the tire tracks, it appears the vehicle hit the end of the guard rail, and then jumped up on it, the Guv is lucky to be alive, and his injuries are proof that he took the brunt of the impact. Seat belt wear and injuries sustained, at this point are moot. It’s a done deal, and who can say.

Many of us have been wondering if all this choreography around Imus hasn’t been a distraction of some sort.

As soon as I heard he was airlifted to Cooper, I knew the injuries had to be pretty serious. I don’t agree with his politics, but I hope he pulls through.

the article also notes that not only did McGreevey break his leg while NJ governor, Christine Todd Whitman did, as well.

That is weird. The only thing that would make it more bizarre is if the crash had happened today.

No seat belt apparently. And on a fool’s errand to “mediate” the Imus-Rutgers thing. Absurd. Poor guy, he’ll have a tough recovery. I fractured one bone in my foot in December. I’m still in pain when I put pressure on it.

As being one who has broken femur and ribs from a head on collision. His gig is ‘too good’ to resign. I was at work a week later, (Own my own business) Now did not walk for six months, and then knee surgery after that so another 4 months.

Overall he will govern from his bed.

Wish him well. It is hell.

Heard on the news this morning that both legs were hanging out the passenger window. Maybe next time he’ll reconsider his “habit of not wearing a seat belt.”

The first thing we hear is it was a hit and run.

Could be bullcrap.

These big shots may have been moving at 90 plus MPH , and then someone is forced to make a lane change. When someone is doing 90 MPH, and you think the most they are doing is 65 MPH, you make your lane change, and BANG!

The road is wet, visibility is down, the guy pulling on to the highway cant see the Kings SUV at first glance, because hes a quarter mile away, but doing 90 MPH and closing in at an exceptional rate of speed.

It would not surprise me in the least. I have seen state trooper drive by me doing 90 to 100 MPH. You dont even know there on the road until there on top of you.

Thank you for the reference. I read it with great interest. The debunking of the figure is interesting. It cites very low figures for state inmates who are illegal aliens. Keep in mind, those figures are skewed downward by the avowed policy of many jurisdictions not to inquire about the citizenship of arrestees.

Bottom line: Because the right questions are not being asked, and the essential information is being hidden, we can't know how many Americans are losing their lives every day, at the hands of illegal aliens. But if Rep. King's extrapolation is 300% too high, the deaths are still more than the daily toll in the Iraq and related wars.

The real information, though not specific, is helpful. Thank you.
