The duration and distance were short, but in those dizzying seconds and feet, Gov. Jon Corzine suffered injuries serious enough to land him in intensive care with a breathing tube down his throat and a doctor declaring him lucky to be alive.The 60-year-old governor underwent about two hours of surgery last night to repair multiple broken bones, including 12 ribs and a femur that protruded through the skin of his thigh following a car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township.
With two of his adult children by his beside, Corzine, sedated and on intravenous painkillers, remains in intensive care in Cooper University Hospital in Camden this morning. He required seven pints of blood, officials said, and is using a breathing tube to ease his respiration with the broken ribs, and a broken breastbone.
The governor also suffered a broken collarbone and lower back bone and a flap-like cut on his skull, which was a plastic surgeon stitched back together.
Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said the governor did not appear to have suffered brain or spinal cord damage.

Corzine’s motorcade has been reported to drive at high speeds and the Governor himself has been known to roll down his window and give the ˜Flying Finger of Friendship” to anyone who doesn’t get out of their way. As I recall, when Cristy Whitman’s driver was exceeding the posted speed limit, the New Jersey press went on a Jihad for putting other drivers lives in danger.
So the dems just need to pony up another cheating lieing weasel to take his place.
Are those LEOs with him actually NJ State Troopers, or Corzine's Praetorian Guard?

No fun at all! When I was 7 I was hit by a car and suffered a concussion and a complete fracture of my right femur. I was in the hospital for a month and in a cast for 3 months, followed by physical therapy to relearn how to walk.

Ooh you just brought back memories! You're right, at his age this could be very serious. Notwithstanding his politics, I'm sorry for his injuries and hope he pulls through.
I wish him a full recovery.
The femur is the largest bone in the body and carries a lot of blood. A broken femur often means death within minutes from blood loss.
Sounds like one tough dude. Prayers for his recovery.

The governor does not usually wear a seat belt, a law-enforcement official said, but it was unknown whether he was wearing one at the time of the crash.
Although leaving the scene of the accident is almost always inexcusible, don't discount the possibility that the accident could have been caused by the State Trooper, who was behind the wheel of Corzine's car. In my observations after many years of driving, State Troopers (and other LEO) act as if speed limits, the use of directionals, prohibitions against tailgating and cell phones, and other rules of the road are for the little people.
You shouldn't take my comment as implying I would take any satisfaction from this accident regardless of who turns out to be responsible. Personally, I have no interest at all in NJ politics, but with so much news these days about illegals causing accidents, plus it being a hit and run my first thought was that if it does indeed turn out to be an illegal responsible, it will probably change some minds on the immigration issue.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration has ceased calling events such as this 'accidents'. The official term is 'crashes'. This is about the one and only useful government action taken by the Clinton Administration.
That was the exact question that came to me when I heard about the hit-and-run.
“Was he wearing a seat belt?”
If not, they better publicize it and fine his a$$ . That would happen to you, me, and any other lowly citizen of the “People’s Republic of New Jersey !”
The topography of his injuries strongly suggests he was not.
