VA state legislators recently shot down bill allowing handguns on campuses for protection

"A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly."

"Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. 'I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.'"

Ouch.

Last spring a Virginia Tech student was disciplined for bringing a handgun to class, despite having a concealed handgun permit.

Well I hope that Spokesman Hincker and Tech's governing board are pleased with themselves now.

These Libs did this in spite of another Virginia campus shooting at Appalachian School of Law (ASL). This shootings occurred at Grundy, VA on January 16, 2002 - barely three years ago and less than 100 miles from the VT Blacksburg. It also involved a foreign student killing other students.

But, that killer was stopped after killing three and wounding another three when another student (a former police office) retrieved his pistol from his vehicle and with two others subdued the killer.

From what I've read, that Law would have prevented even this licensed former cop from having his gun!

I personally think it would be safe to say that if even 10% of those students had been carrying a handgun, the death toll would have been at least 90% lower.
These people (including my wife) just don’t get it. The policy canNOT protect you. Police departments are reactionary organizations, they are the mop-up crew. I mean no offense by this, I’m glad there are people who have the guts to do the job and we need them. However, when the police arrive on scene, the murder has already occurred. When the police arrive, the robbery is already over. When the police arrive, it’s after the intruder left your home in the middle of the night. When the police arrive, a woman has already been ravaged by the rapist. Rarely are the police able to PREVENT the crime because quite simply, there are only so many of them and they can’t be everywhere always watching everyone. In order to be protected, every man, woman and child would need a full time armed body guard committed to them every minute of the day. 2/3 of our population would be police. We need the ability to protect ourSELVES.
Armed students would not have prevented this tragedy. But I guarantee an armed student would have dropped his a** from behind no sooner than he could pull his weapon. The death toll would have been 2 rather than 32 in all likelihood.

/end rant

Someone with a concealed weapon might very well have stopped this rampage, but I wonder how many of the late '60's leftists that now reside in a large portion of academia would actually carry? Somehow, I think very few....

IOW, as I recently told my flaming Liberal neighbor, just because we hire a security force, i.e., police, it doesn't mean we give up the right to self protection.

Those lefties couldn’t even think of carrying a gun - UNLESS they were fantasizing about visiting a Republican White House.

There are some leftists - those I call the “shepherds” - that WOULD INDEED carry guns. They are the ones that believe that they are superior and “know better”.

The “sheep” leftists, on the other hand, look for people to take care of them, and wouldn’t make the decision to take care of themselves.

These two types have a sick symbiotic relationship.

'I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel safe on our campus.'"

What about being safe on campus? I wonder how he feels now about disarming any and all law-abiding students who otherwise might've been able to prevent the slaughter of 20 or 30 people?

Never mind -- I know how he feels. He feels like we need to "do more" to take the eevilguns away from everyone.
