Tech killer was 'obsessed' with girl who had new boyfriend (New info)
Timed of London ^ | 4/17/2007

Posted on 04/17/2007 12:41:47 PM PDT by Rutles4Ever

Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.

The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.

Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”

Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.

”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.

She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”

Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.

Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.

It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.

Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.

“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”

On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”

Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”

“The story seems to paint her as an angel and after 5 mintues of web search she doesn’t seem to be.”

Even if true, so what? What is your point, and why do you care if some freepers paint her as an angel?

The whole My Space culture depresses me ... girls cussing like sailors ... rampant immodesty and sexual obsession ... none of it speaks very well of where we are as a culture.

But I'm not sure how much you can tell about a person's character and personality from the artificial My Space environment. I'm sure that most of these young people are very nice in person ... and I'll bet that was true of this dear young lady.

If you think I’m not going to investigate this story so Hemingway’s Ghost doesn’t think bad of me, you’re wrong.

I don’t mean her any harm, but as I stated in my first post this story seems to paint her like an angel.

“To me it looks like she was easy, a little unstable, befriended a murderer, and her having sexual relations with other guys triggered all his insanity.”

Stop blaming the victim - which is exactly what you are doing when you say actions she took “triggered all his insanity.”

That herpes sore and his “weirdness” didn’t help his cause either.

Maybe we ought to re-think coeducation, or at least co-ed dorms.

I don't disagree with you there ... but what is a little muddled in this article is that the shooter and this girl actually lived in different dorms. It was the slain RA that was the girl's neighbor.

Since you refuse to get to the point of your comments, I will. You are hostile toward women and may have been hurt by one or two women, so you can’t help but speak ill of a recently departed woman.

“I really dislike it when I have to spell out the most commen sense things to people”

You also dislike it when you have to spell. (commen, common)

“Tech killer” ?! I thought he was an English major? And what’s so ‘tech’ about a 9mm and a .22? Anything for a label.

“No way in hell this was his girlfriend, just the object of his obsession, she was unlucky enough to be his neighbor, any pretty neighbor would have been the object of his fantasies, she got the unlucky room.”

Guess I am old fashioned, but I see absolutely no good reason for colleges/universities to allow co-ed dorms!

On the subject of co-ed dorms, I agree, a rational college would not allow them. However don’t underestimate the fact that many irrational boomer parents actually WANT their children to be sexually active, as it is a sign of their popularity. I see it all the time.

To me it looks like she was easy, a little unstable, befriended a murderer, and her having sexual relations with other guys triggered all his insanity.

I meant it as her romantic buffing(if it happened) of the murderer is what set him off.

It's hysterical to assume killing people is normal behavior. But it's not unheard of.

I remember an older guy telling me a story about some guy back in the 50's who had this knock out wife with a wandering eye...they would eat at his restaurant. The wife had a secret affair with the manager. One night my guy was standing by the door and the husband came in, asked the group if any of them were John Doe and when one answered yes, the husband shot him in front of everyone.

When you play fast and easy with sex, people become passionate even if they are not like this Korean kid.

Tech as in Virginia Tech. It used to be VPI—Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State College. Virginians called it “tech” which eventually became its name mostly to distinguish it from “virginia’ which is UVA

I agree with you but check out post 94 and what is considered news in Europe.

I’m assuming this love triangle is worthy enough to be reported internationally.

It is easy for people to think that this is about sex and romance than to think “correctly” that this guy is a terrorist who is an angry socialist, angry at rich people, angry at our way of life and high standards of living, and yes he may have converted to islam and adopted jihadist ideas.

The British press belongs to the tabloids class, there is no press in Britain, just tabloids.

Sad...Beautiful girl! Also seems strange that he liked girls; judging from his “one act play” writings I would have guessed that he was a troubled latent homosexual.

Post 92 explains why I bring it up.

And I’m sorry if you think it’s crass but this article seems to be taking this story places where other evidence doesn’t warrant.
