Talk Of The Town: Giuliani-Thompson
CBS/US News ^ | Apr 17, 2007 | Paul Bedard

(US News) You've probably seen the "Clinton-Obama '08" bumper sticker proclaiming the Democratic dream team. Now on the GOP side we're hearing lots of buzz in political circles and among Republican congressional leaders of a Rudy Giuliani-Fred Thompson ticket.

But Thompson isn't keen on riding shotgun yet. "If he gets in," says an ally, "he's running to win the presidency."

I think that talk iscoming mostlyfrom Guiliani reporters.

They know that once Thompson enters, the jig is up.

Here's a clue, take it: Having Fred on the ticket won't give Rudy the Rino the "cover" he needs to get conservatives to turn out for him. He is what he is.

I agree. If anyone thinks I will vote for Rudy if they try and stick Thompson on as VP, they can also forget that.

The VP has very little to do.

I’m not sure I’d vote for a Thompson-Giuliani ticket.

I know I wouldn’t vote for a Giuliani-Thompson ticket.

Damn, the pro-Rudybots will pull out all the stops, including suggesting the RINO ride the coat tails of a great man.

Just to save yourselves time, Rudy supporters...he isn't going to win the nomination, no matter how many 'Discoveries of his Conservatism' get posted.

That’s the one way that I WOULDN’T vote for Thompson - as Rudy’s running mate. There’s just no putting lipstick on that pig!

Do you guys ever Read without jumping on the poster's case? Veronica doesn't write the news. It's the Republican Congress critters who are talking about this not the FR poster. Get a Grip! It's just talk! Fred is meeting with them today to discuss his bid.

"Now on the GOP side we're hearing lots of buzz" in political circles and among Republican congressional leaders of a Rudy Giuliani-Fred Thompson ticket."

"We're hearing lots of buzz" code words for "inside the Beltway liberal-speak for those who delude themselves into thinking that they are the arbiters of conservative thought.

Give it a rest you guys. Talking among yourselves does NOT resonate with the rest of the country, especially the parts of the country that really matter in primaries and voting booths.

If Thompson took second chair to Rudy, I’d lose all respect for him. However, if Thompson felt it would be beneficial to have Rudy as a VP, I could go along with that. If Rudy wants us to vote for him, he needs more time to PROVE that he truly believes in what he’s telling us now. He hasn’t had time to do that yet. If he took the time and proved that his newfound conservatism was indeed what he believes, then I’d support him. Until then, I don’t trust him at all.

I just finished reading Giuliani’s book “Leadership”. I think he would be a much better VP than a President after reading the book. In fact I think he would be excellent at keeping the President’s agenda moving forward. But I fear he would be a micro-manager as the President.
