I'm thinking the massacre would have occurred regardless, but it would have started in the Dean's office where the bad news was delivered.
To throw a mentally unstable person out into the street in any case, the problem simply moves to someplace else, and again the massacre would have occurred.
The answer lies in treatment. It lies in interdicting the problem before it become a societal problem. It cannot be forced treatment unless a crime has been committed, and then it is too late.
We must put mental health ahead of many of the unnecessary and useless political correctness. We need to make it as important as contraception, acne, chest pains and cancer for example. It needs to be on the front societal burner and everyone should be concerned about their own health as well as others.
Today, some poor kid got tossed out of grade school for making a list of people he did not like. What a great help that was...LOL...Show me a kid who does not have issues with other kids. Show me a kid who makes no lists....Show me a kid who automatically knows how to deal with interpersonal relationships.
What happened to that kid was wrong, and a stupid reaction.
It is no wonder that the U.S. is often the laughing stock in other countries. We act like rabble. Knee jerk, hyper emotional rabble.

VA, like most states has two levels of commitment. The first is a “Temporary Order for Dentention” which is for observation/evaluation. This is what Cho had. He was detained, evaluated, given a prescription, ordered to outpatient treatment and released.
Had he presented a more clear danger to himself or others they might have gone to the 2nd level of involuntary commitment.
That didn’t happen. Had he had an actual criminal record say from actual stalking charges having been filed or arson charges filed, his heinous act may have been averted.
But maybe not. The best way to protect ourselves and our civil rights is to pack heat and take personal self defense as both a right and a responsibility very seriously.
Government cannot protect us from the insane without seriously eroding the civil rights of average citizens. I do not recommend tightening up mental health laws because they are incredibly easy to abuse by those in power.
The deadliest school attack in the US was in 1927, though.
I don’t disagree with any of that. Mohammad was a barbarian, a pedophile, a rapist and a demon. As far as I’m concerned, he’s the most vile animal to ever walk the planet.
And his fake religion is the fastest growing faith on the planet.
I think it’s important that every Christian and Jew on this earth understand the implications of exactly what that means.

I don't see how it could have been averted, either, unless charges were filed. No one knew what was in this kid's head, no one knew what his plans were. No one knew how dangerous he truly was until it was too late.

This is very true. A big problem though is that there seems to be alot of resistance from those with serious mental disorders (bi-polar, schizophrenia) (not depression/anxiety patients) in taking their medication. There seems to be a common complaint, they do not like the way the meds makes them feel. I have met two people with schizophrenia, one was angry, controlling and delusional, the other passive, deceptive & manipulative. Some characteristics may just be personality. But, when anger & delusional thinking comes into play, we all can see it can be very dangerous. I wish there was a way doctors could hold patients accountable to taking medication if the diagnosis is serious.

well ok....what I was trying to say was...as he was member of a minority group, he given more latitude, in the numerous confrontations with the faculty, whereas other students would have been expelled....

If a person has TB they will get their meds. They may be in the hospital or have to go to clinic or a home health nurse tracks them down. If they don’t take their meds we commit them.
