A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PRESIDENT BUSH (PHOTOS) 4-18-07

Welcome to Sanity Island, where only adults are allowed.

This morning, President Bush Visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. He was accompanied by some members of his administration including Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.

On hand to welcome him were museum director, Sara Bloomfield and Elie Wiesel, about whom President Bush said, "I thank very much Elie Wiesel for joining us. He is a -- he's a big figure in the life of the world, as he should be. He speaks with moral clarity. And I can't thank you enough for being a leader of talking about what is right. And I'm honored to be in your presence."

The full text of President Bush's remarks can be read here.

President Bush speaking at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, Wednesday, April 18, 2007.

After lunch, President Bush Met with Bipartisan and Bicameral Congressional Leadership in the Cabinet Room. Prior to the meeting he said, "We're going to have a very good discussion. People have strong opinions around the table, and I'm looking forward to listening to them. I've got my own opinion, which I'm more than willing to share. The whole objective is to figure out how best to get our troops funded, get the money they need to do the job that I've asked them to do."

Quote of the Day

I am pleased that the Supreme Court upheld a law that prohibits the abhorrent procedure of partial-birth abortion. Today's decision affirms that the Constitution does not stand in the way of the people's representatives enacting laws reflecting the compassion and humanity of America. The partial-birth abortion ban, which an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress passed and I signed into law, represents a commitment to building a culture of life in America.

The Supreme Court's decision is an affirmation of the progress we have made over the past six years in protecting human dignity and upholding the sanctity of life. We will continue to work for the day when every child is welcomed in life and protected in law.

Longtime FReeper and cherished FRiend went to the Lord this afternoon. kayak was a friend to everyone and she was loved by everyone whose lives she touched even slightly.

Kay loved the Dose and she was also keeper and poster of FR Military Prayer List. I am reposting this tribute to her which first appeared on The Finest thread a couple of years back, so that those of you who didn't know her, can get to know her and for those of us who were blessed to know her, we can reflect on her life and give thanks to God for her friendship.

Sincere thanks and gratitude for this beautiful tribute to kayak go to FReepers daisyscarlett and Billie. Thank you both!

I offer my humble prayers for Kay's family. Her daughter is FReeper poppyseed.

ONE OF FR'S FINEST

"kayak"
Freeper since 2-13-99

"kayak doesn't kayak"

kayak's screen name is a play on her real name. When she first joined FR in early 1999 (after lurking for months), she was still skeptical and wanted a very neutral screen name. In her words-"I succeeded beyond my wildest imagination ..... I am often assumed to be male .... and from time to time get FReepmails asking about the sport of kayaking, which I know absolutely nothing about ...... LOL!"

"Getting to know you..."

Kayak is a beautiful Christian woman. She has been married to her "Prince Charming" for nearly 36 years and is the mother of two and the grandmother of two (four year-old boy and three year-old girl). She has lived in NC all her life, except for one brief period when she moved to GA for about seven months. Most of her life she has lived in eastern NC, only moving to the Charlotte area nine years ago.

Kayak visits many threads but her favorite "hang-outs" on FR are the America-The Right Way! thread (where each night she posts a link to the thread from the day before and breakfast for the early birds the next morning), The "Dose", and the Pray for Bush thread, (on which she has participated since it began in September 2000). She also makes it a point to bump the FReepathon threads as much as possible.

"A couple of fun freeps"

During the 2000 campaign, Dick and Lynne Cheney visited Charlotte and kayak was among the crowd that went to the airport to meet them. Their appearance was brief and she didn't get a chance to shake their hands or speak to them but she was thrilled with the opportunity to see them. NB: She is a Cheney Chick (going back to his days as SecDef under GHWB) as well as a Bush Babe.

In April of 2001, when the media were really down on President Bush and he didn't enjoy the popularity across the nation that he now does, he visited NC and was scheduled to appear at a school in a small town north of Charlotte. Kayak and FReeper Carolinamom decided to go, knowing that they wouldn't get a chance to see anything but a glimpse of the Presidential motorcade on the way to the school. But they felt it was important to let him know that he had their support. So they made some posters and waited at an intersection out in the boondocks. When the motorcade came by and turned right in front of them, the President not only waved as he went by but then turned around and waved out the back window, giving them the three-fingered W sign! They waited for over an hour for the return trip and were rewarded with another glimpse and another wave!

It happened to be the day that the President was able to announce that the crew of the reconnaisance plane held captive in China was to be released and he was able to talk personally to the parents of one of the crewmen who was from Charlotte.

"In her own words..."

"I'm just a dedicated FReeper who is extremely patriotic and a cheerleader for all the talented and dedicated people here. While many threaten to leave the forum, I insist that they will have to drag me away screaming while trying to get the white coat on me ....... LOL!"

"I think this thread is a grand idea, especially in view of all the negativism on FR lately. It helps us to realize just how many good people are here and how much they are accomplishing."

"You're special"

Kayak brings sunshine with her to every thread she visits. She is, indeed, a cheerleader and her positive attitude is something to be emulated. Her posts are well thought out, she "keeps up" with the events and times and is articulate, wry and well respected.

She has been extremely helpful to this thread, A Few of FR's Finest, from its inception-sending us notes of encouragement as well as making some very useful suggestions on FReepers to be acknowledged on this thread.

Kayak, we think you are GRAND!!!

CONGRATULATIONS

YOU ARE ONE OF FR'S FINEST

Haggatha Piglosi! Nearly spit my Mountain Dew all over my keyboard with that one!

The first photo has her looking mighty bored. Maybe she’s not used to being next to someone (President Bush) who actually has a code of ethics for conduct.

I first met kayak (Kay) in person when we both arrived at the Charlotte airport to hear and greet soon-to-be VP Cheney and Lynn Cheney.

We got to shake hands w/both of them, and when I told Lynn Cheney about the CheneyChicks here at FR, she laughed out loud.

In addition to our meeting to stand by the road waving to President Bush, we had lunch together several months ago. We talked so long that we were the last patrons to leave the Italian restaurant!
