Senate Shame

U.S. Attorneys: Democrats turned the Senate Judiciary Committee into a circus-like political rally Thursday, complete with chants from costumed demonstrators. Alberto Gonzales was the most sober man in the room.

How does "The World's Greatest Deliberative Body" treat the nation's chief law enforcement officer?

With his panel breaking for lunch, Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy was seen giggling as a departing Attorney General Gonzales was subjected to crowds holding up signs and bellowing "Resign!" in the hearing room. After Gonzales returned for the afternoon session, noisy demonstrators were allowed to roam freely around the room with their placards. At the hearing's final gavel they sang and shouted taunts.

The White House should realize that sacrificing Gonzales won’t end Congress’ feeding frenzy. It will whet it.

There’s blood in the water.

If I were in DC, I would get a couple of friends and show up at the hearing dressed in costume for the ‘Spanish Inquisition’.

Now that would be cool!!

Congress was clever in delaying the hearings for two days while the mass media was occupied with endless reporting on the VT incedient. Congress needed to make sure their demeaning soundbites about the AG got maximun coverage on TV.

Absolutely correct. It is appalling that the Senate allowed disruptive demonstrators to roam freely inside the hearing; that's about as close to mob rule as you can get.

I heard a sound clip from Leaky yesterday. His speech was slurred. (And I used to slur a LOT of my speech, so I recognize it when I hear it.)

And he was giggling??

Hmmmmm.

I don’t particularly like Gonzalez and his handling of this matter is certainly not an achievement.

However, The Dems are on a roll and taking everybody down, and this is not the time to be conceding anything. We should fight for any Republican at this time. It won’t stop here and it’s not about Rove. It’s about getting a true friend and confidant of the President out in the hope that the next AG will turn on the President so they can have their impeachment.

I’m a Republican but admit it Republicans are just terrible at the game of government where the masters of govt (the Dems) play a much better game. I hope Bush keeps supporting Gonzalez.

The democrats are engaged in political vandalism. There’s no principle involved other than to trash the other party.

Sounds like the Paul Wellstone funeral.

Democrats have no sense of decorum.

And, we need to call/email Republican Senators to let them know they need to stand united or we will have a Dim in ‘08.

Yesterday, I called Spector and asked why, when Clinton fired the 92 fed prosecutors, there wasn’t a “show” with the then AG, like there was with Gonzales? I also called Coburns office to ask WHY Gonzales should resign when there is NO evidence of wrongdoing? Told both the R’s better unite or we’ll have Dem Pres in ‘08 and GOD help America if that happens.

“If I were in DC, I would get a couple of friends and show up at the hearing dressed in costume for the ‘Spanish Inquisition’.”

You would probably end up in jail. These demonstrators were probably paid staff of the Demoncrats.

The entire Congress is a circus these days. What a joke. Where have all the statesmen gone?

The Republicans are always like this. They think that by behaving with the utmost decorum the Democrats will reciprocate.

But the Democrats act like a bunch of 3d-graders and get the soundbites.

We never, ever learn.

Listening to Leahy’s slurring speech yesterday makes you wonder if his first business of the day was with a bottle.

I’m saying fight fire with fire.

Republicans are much more imaginative and humorous.

I wish AG Gonzales would have asked Leaky Leahy why he didn't ask for AG Janet El Reno's resignation when she had the civilians at Waco murdered in 1993.

"Told both the R’s better unite or we’ll have Dem Pres in ‘08 and GOD help America if that happens."

You are going to have a socialist in the Whitehouse whether it has a "D" or an "R" after it's name. It is just a matter of degree.

GOD will not help America. Smith & Wesson, Remington Arms Company, Glock and maybe even Kalashnikov might though.

He’s a minority that went off the DNC reservation. He must be hunted down, and if he can’t be brought back, he must be destroyed.

As for me, it made me ill watching his apologize. I keep hearing about this “Bush Loyalty”, but it sure looks like Gonzales has been thrown under the bus.

No one in the Bush Administration has a spine left.
