(AP) - Nicolas Sarkozy and Segolene Royal go head to head for the French presidency on May 6. Here is a glance at some of their key policy differences.
NICOLAS SARKOZY:
ECONOMY: Wants to make overtime pay tax-free to encourage people to work more.
EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION: Wants to postpone controversial issues in favor of adopting a simpler constitution by 2009, without another referendum.
35-HOUR WORKWEEK: Says it's not creating jobs as intended but would not abolish it. Wants to relax rules to let people work more for more pay.
RELATIONS WITH UNITED STATES: Embraces moniker "Sarko the American" and gladly shook hands with President Bush. Admires American "energy" and opportunity - but calls Iraq war a mistake.

SEGOLENE ROYAL:
ECONOMY: Wants to raise the monthly minimum wage.
EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION: Wants to negotiate a new treaty and subject it to a referendum. Says the European Union should ensure Europeans across-the-board social protections.
35-HOUR WORKWEEK: Says it has had benefits and drawbacks. Wants to address its failure to create more jobs in a country with high unemployment.
RELATIONS WITH UNITED STATES: Calls the Iraq war a "catastrophe" but says she doesn't confuse the Bush administration and its policies with the United States as a whole.
And both are strongly pro-abortion !
I think it all needs to be simplified more.
Far too many details here for American news readers to grasp.
SEGOLENE ROYAL looks better in a bikini.
It’s very very difficult for me to stay calm after reading such a thing. How bad informed you are ! Here, in France - and, believe me, I know what I am talking about - less than one per cent is pro-life. France has the highest number of frozed embryos in the world. YOU are the Country of Hope, the Pro-life fight can - and will be - won in America. Never in France, except after a war.
Nearly NOBODY is pro-life in France. That is a fact.
And the truth.
The reason older women wear a one-piece...
Must be a little chilly out.
If Royal should win it, France wil move from the tiolet to the hole in the ground.
Geez, what next?
Does she have a 'public life partner' too?
Here in the states, you can have abortion on demand up till week 22-26 depending on the state, and in a lot of states there is not even a waiting period.
25% of pregnancies in America end in Abortion
20% of pregnancies in France end in Abortion.
I am not saying France is markedly more pro-life, I am saying your Abortion laws are far more protective of the unborn then our own, and unfortunately a lot of the developed world have more restrictive abortion policies then we do. What can I say, our socialists love killing babies more then there European counterparts.
Abortion in France
The latest a woman can get an abortion in France is 12 weeks. If the “butcher-doctor” thinks the baby may have a handicap, the abortion can happen till the ninth month : there is no limit. That is the law. Concerning “counseling on alternatives”, it’s just a bad joke.
You can believe me, I’ve been in this fight for more than twenty years. In France, there’s no “pro-life” position in politics. Nobody cares !
I understand your point of view. Thanks. I wish I could be with you to fight, because I do really think you will win (and we pray every day for this and for your President), whereas I am convinced this fight is now lost here.
However, I’m not sure you realize how little freedom we have here.
Anyway, Islam in France will be God’s answer.
People like you help us to keep the faith. Thank you for your kindness.
I’d like to add something about numbers. The fact that abortion in France is “more” restricted by the law, has had a worse effect : it has killed resistance. When we see your freedom of speech, your gigantic “March for Life” (not only in Washington, but also in San Fransisco)... Here, many things (the good ones) are censored. The persecution for disabled babies is very very strong. My first daughter, 11 years old - an adorable angel - is trisomic 21. I can tell you this : to educate properly a disabled child, I mean when you really love her, it is a hell in France. It is a daily fight. But I’m not complaining for that. I mean most of French people are detestable and will deserve their future.
I think you will be surprise when you come in Europe.
My wife and I bring some of our grandkids to the March for Life every year. I think you and your daughter should come to DC some year and March with us. It sounds as if your wonderful daughter has a wonderful father. God bless and keep you both.
