Arkansas Earth Day draws thousands

Alongside bands and belly dancers, a solar-paneled water pump, handmade clothing and organic produce dotted the lawn of the Clinton Presidential Center and Park on Saturday.

The exhibits and performances were part of the Arkansas Earth Day Festival.

Since 1970, when Earth Day began, the emphasis of the annual event has shifted, said April Ambrose, founder, executive director and board president of the Arkansas Earth Day Foundation.

“When Earth Day first started, the focus was to educate people about how our actions affected the environment,” Ambrose said Saturday. “What is needed now is a celebration to help people be empowered.”

Gov. Mike Beebe, the event’s keynote speaker, encouraged the group to challenge others to adopt earth-friendly habits.

And it will take hours to clean up all the trash the festival-goers left on the grounds, no doubt.

“Alongside bands and belly dancers, a solar-paneled water pimp, handmade blue dresses and organic produce (including cigars) dotted the lawn of the Clinton Presidential Center and Trailer Park on Saturday.”

There, a little commentary of color.....

Did Ira Einhorn show up with his dead girlfriend in the truck? He is the one who started Earth Day.

Ya gotta love the Clinton library. The thing is most appropriately designed to look like a single-wide trailer home.

Yep, Arkansas needs an earth day and also needs to apologize for unleashing the Clinton's on the rest of America.

Southern Arkansas where the Clinton's are from is also the home of the Clampets and the Texas Chain Saw Massacre killers.

I am really surprised that Billy boy married Hellary.

I would have thought he would have preferred a distant cousin for a life mate.

I celebrated Earth Day by helping a friend cut down some trees. Ahhh... the sweet sound of a chain saw on Earth Day.

To add to the festivities I drove there in my 10mpg, no emission controls, 69 Firebird.

Where can I buy some empowerment credits?

The Clinton Virtual Reality Library
Steven Spielberg has contacted Bill Clinton about creating a “virtual reality” exhibit and the nation’s only presidential library dedicated to an impeached president. Spielberg is a master of fiction, which makes him the best possible candidate for such a “virtual history”. Among the top features of the new exhibit . . . .
6.Close Encounters of the Second Term (in the Office Closet)
5.Raiders of the Lost Billing Records
4.Jurassic Pork Barrel Politics
3.Back to the Bridge to the Future When My Polls are Sagging
2.Arkansas Bill and the Temple of Fundraisers
1. The most arousing exhibition, The Color Purple (tastefully shown, of course).

It could once have been called the Clinton library and free fire zone.

with the nearly off the cliff “look” and old passenger car train look.............well...........it looks like a passenger car that nearly fell off a cliff. What did that set em back ? About 500 bucks and some parking tickets ?

Arkansas Earth Day Foundation began as Conway Earth Day Foundation and was founded by April Ambrose in collaboration with the Arkansas Center for the Study of Integrative Medicine.

I hope April wasn't the belly dancer.

We decorated 1200 bags!

About our project: We got grocery bags donated from both Kroger stores in Conway. Then we distributed these to interested teachers at 3 local elementary schools. The children decorated them and then we picked them back up. We displayed them at our Earth Day Festival and then tried to give them back to the stores who didn't want them! Instead we use them in our organization in fundraisers, shopping bags for our fundraising items, and more. They have been very helpful! We also posted a few designs to our website. I think the program is a great one, but for someone outside the schools it is hard to find interested teachers! We did use the local Newspapers in Education person at our newspaper, the Log Cabin Democrat, to help us in this way. We had a lot of fun with the program, but for 2006 we are simply taking them to the Boys and Girls Club to get about 100 decorated.
