Amazing how captivated the media is with fire.

That's because it really looks gassy on video, especially at night.

CD, you took the words right out of my mouth. That exact scenario happened about 2 miles down the road from me several months ago. The only difference is, the construction guys knew they hit the line, called the gas company who said nothing registered on their equipment. About 2 hrs later “BOOM!”. My parents were able to see the fireball about 60 miles from the blast site.

Good thing I bought RSNRX in early February, more than offsets the higher energy prices.

I’m not so sure flames could reach and maintain 1,000 feet high.

This comes pretty close: Video of Devil's Cigarette Lighter

Explosions and fires have been happening around oil and gas a lot longer than there has been a serious threat of terrorism in the U.S.

Safety, safety, safety -- That's the catch word to reduce incidents of this type. Transport of flammable liquids by pipeline is the safest method of transport. Imagine if our energy always traveled by truck or train. However, it is always subject to incidents like this for whatever reason. Federal law requires notification before digging or disturbing a buried line. As of this month there is one national number for notification: 811.

Very true and very interesting video! Where is Red Adair when you need him? Most news helicopters operate at about 1,000 feet. The actually have an agreement among themselves to use a specific altitude so as to make it less work for the various pilots to keep an eye on them. Some are at 900, others at 1,100, etc. In the Ft. Worth footage the flames are not as high as the helicopter that's doing the shooting. The tops of the flames are well below the altitude of the helicopter. Of course this is all speculation on my part. The FAA might have imposed a TFR around the scene, forcing the coverage to be farther away and higher than usual. I know too it makes no big difference, I just though that flames reaching 1,000 feet are unlikely. In any event, I don't plan to take my tape measure and find out for myself! If you want to go take those measurements I'll wait here for you.

Wow, I’d be running away too! High as those flames are though they are not 1,000 feet. I fly a lot and believe me 1,000 feet is pretty high. Can’t really tell about the distance to the flames in the pictures and the angle at which the shots were taken, but I’d guess they are in the 500 to 600 foot range.

500, 600 or 1,000 that’s a lot of flame!

People here at work witnessed this on the way in and said it was bigger in the beginning before the helicopters got there to film it.

Luckily the nearby power station seems unscathed.

It amazes me that we keep have the blasts in Texas at oil installations but it is NEVER a terrorist attack.

I think the Bush people are withholding the truth from the American people.

It amazes me that there are people who want to believe in conspiracies rather than exercise their brains.

Do you honestly believe there were no explosions, no fires, no accidents at Texas oil installations prior to the global terrorism threat? Refineries are dangerous, volatile places and accidents, including explosions, happen all the time.

I mean, heck, if you want to blame Bush for covering up SOMETHING in these cases, it's more likely he's helping obscure that the employment of unskilled illegal labor has decreased safety in these industrial locations, creating more accidents.

And people thought this thread couldn't be hijacked by the 'illegal alien' crowd...

Number of refineries and oil processing plants in Ft Worth = ZERO.

Petrochemical plants blow up on a fairly regular basis - they always have. Same thing with train derailments - average of over one a day, last time I looked.

What amazes me is that right before the summer driving season every year, there is always some sort of refinery mishap or pipeline shutdown.......something!

Then gas prices soar. Then next you hear of RECORD profits from the oil and gas companies.

Yes, it is all a giant conspiracy. The oil majors get together in NYC every spring and draw straws to see who will blow up his own plant and property in order to raise prices on servantboy777.
