I fell asleep in my chair. It was a late night at the FRiends of the NRA fund raiser at the Elks Lodge last night. I was at the gun store registering my new shot gun today and they told me they raised between $45 and $50,000.

IIRC, wasn’t it driver and owner dis-satisfaction with a governing body that led to CART?

Dunno about the driver half, but it was the owners' dissatifaction (led by Roger Penske) with USAC that led to CART. Unfortunately for them, they never grabbed control of the Indy 500, eventually opening the door for Tony George to screw up American open-wheel racing with IRL.

Back then I was less than a casual fan of motor sports. Living in NYC (no cable ‘til the very late 80’s), we usually only got week-old edited tapes of races on Wide World of Sports although some were b’cast live. I just liked watching cars race. LOL!
