Yes and no. The majority leader has the power to block measures from coming for votes, or keeping a senator's pet project bottled up in committee. A majority in the senate would also mean the GOP would have an equal voice at the House-Senate Conference Committee. It would make a big difference. I'm just not convinced that someone like a Chuck Hagel wouldn't jump if Lieberman did.
Lieberman needs to switch parties and make Reid the minority leader. Then again, everytime Reid opens his mouth it improves our chances in 2008.
Like it.

Still it would be show of strength, principle and determination by Lieberman. It’s shameful to see him make the right remarks but still caucusing with the Dems.
Let Hagel show everyone what an idiot he is.
We ought to define demoralizing our troops as aiding and abetting the enemy.
Brilliant analysis in what I’m sure was a heart-felt speech on his part to the Senate. My fear is that he is merely spitting into the wind as to the response he will get from the defeatists though. We simply CANNOT turn our backs on another culture like we did in SouthEastAsia 30 years ago. Can’t the Democrooks see that our national integrity is at stake here?
Except that it doesn’t look like Mr. Reid is able to “learn” and if he has his way about it, will take the whole country down with him.
But that’s not going to happen. Not really. Someone else had the job of Majority Leader before him, and someone will after. Just hope the “after” is sooner than later.
I agree 100%
I almost feel bad for voting against him while I lived in CT. Nowadays, he’s showing a lot of backbone.
What does it say about the GOP, and even the Bush admin istration, that the clearest, most articulate advocate of the administration’s efforts in Iraq, the strongest supporter of Gen Petreus, in NOT a Republican..

Where in Chicago area are you?
How about referring to the Dims as “surrendercrats” since this is what they are advocating.
Should have added that we are in Tinley Park

Come on over to the good side, Joe.
