O.K. Freepers; I know most of you watched the 'Rats one and a half hour debate tonight. What do you think was the most stupid remark any of them made? I'll start it off.
I thought Sen. Dodd's statement opposing drug testing for welfare recipients was utterly stupid. He said that drug addiction was an illness and a person should not have to give up their welfare because they are ill.
Gag me with a book of food stamps!
“That was funny. Richardson must think being president makes him a king and he can do stuff without Congress being in session.”
The thing is that, with few exceptions, Democrat voters (by definition) are so stupid that they probably believe him.
He’s only trying to win the Democratic candidacy - you have to be the dumbest of the dumb to do that.
It’s only in the general debates that your IQ is forced to go up.
Was there one most stupid remark or a crescendo of stupid remarks?
If that was said, I missed it.
You might consider reading The Tragedy of American Compassion by Marvin Olasky. You will learn a great deal about life, and people, and helping vs hurting people, that you don't yet know.
thanks.
I'm having trouble finding evidence on the Internet that Elizabeth Edwards said something like this.
I understand.
I understand.
come to my world for awhile ...you wont be so generous.
ive seen people that worked hard all their lives fall on some hard times...but because they own a home (that was also mortgaged to the hilt because of the hard times) they couldnt get the help...and ive seen way too many people that cant speak english but sure know how to use the system...just a couple days ago i watched someone get over on the system using their welfare card...the purchase they made wasnt qualified for food stamps so they simply pushed the next button and got money instead to pay. theres too much coruption in our “help”..
im sorry but i dont want to support someones drug habit and be an enabler...if you want to do it ..go for it.
if people blow their paychecks on crack at least its not coming out of my pocket...and then the agencies can go get at them...i dont have a problem with that either...
i say live and let live...i just dont want to have to foot the bill.
My daughter had piano practice.
I took her to it.
That is sad and funny all at the same time.
Nope, it’s just stupid.....
MOgirl
This is absolutely how it is out there...many years and an ex husband ago...we lived on Welfare....the only time I saw the man was the day the check came in...he would cash it and then go to the local “shop and rob” and sell the food stamps for beer money...my kids went hungry...finally wised up and left the jerk.
The Welfare sytem enabled his addiction...when he wouldn’t look for a job or come to the office to pick up the check they took him off the welfare raised the amount...because now I was a “single parent” in their eyes and sent the check to the house...which made it so much more convenient for the bum to take off with everything.
I wake up every morning and thank God that I no longer am on Welfare....that I have a modicum of privacy in my life and that the jerk I was married to is no longer in the picture.
I’ll vote for the prolonged dead air when Breck Girl was asked about “his moral authority”.
Oh my! And then when the pee test comes back positive, have their casted vote with an asterisk next to it! LOL
Sen Ted Kennedy (D-MA): Nay*
* - drunk
Unfortunately, it's been overwhelmed and connections are hard to come by.
He's definitely tonight's winner. LOL
'Tis now a "Nutritional Supplement debit card" - makes career welfare recipients more prideful in their hustle - er, situation....
As for drug testing, I agree that it should not be implemented by the government for receiving welfare (if we are stuck with welfare for the time being). Out of compassion for drug addicts? No, actually. Because it would further expand government bureaucracy. Once the technical apparatus is in place (inevitable, either through bs like this or via Hillary-care), little can stop the scope of its implementation from being expanded.
The FDA decides what you can legally take; I see nothing fundamental (aside from the Constitution, which gets s**t on in new and exciting ways every day) that would prohibit the government from decreeing that all citizens should undergo mandatory drug testing once every X months to ensure that no non-FDA approved substances are in their bodies. Tie it in to a "compassionate conservative" (religious socialism) reason, like giving further license to child-protective services if you want. And, the other nanny-staters, "Rudy-conservatives", will raise nary a peep until it is trans-fat, tobacco, red meat, etc that go off the government approved substances list.
Glad you asked that, Artemis, I never heard of the guy either. Since we've lost the war on terror, I figured one of the candidates would have a plan to issue prayer rugs and burkhas.
With all due respect it was a stupid question.
Welfare and other entitlement programs are put in place to help people according to their needs. Period. That's what makes people qualify for them.
Employers are looking for people with particuler skills and qualifications to perform in specific capacities in a contract arrangement...they work for and contribute to the company and are compensated financially for it.
I can't believe I have to explain this.
