Having a high NARAL rating is not the same thing as “supporting abortion on demand.”

Then what is it then?

A badge of honor or something?

Unbelievable.

I just think words mean things. “Abortion on demand” means something very specific. Rudy doesn’t seem to support that.

I’m really trying to understand exactly what anyone thinks they’ll get with regards to abortion.

If you want it banned totally, I don’t know which GOP candidate out there is going to be able to do that. They can appoint justices along the lines of Scalia, but most of the GOP candidates have already claimed to be willing to do that. Other than that, seriously, how do you expect any of them to make abortion illegal? A candidate can state that he or she feels that abortion is murder, but that doesn’t mean he or she would be able to pass some sort of veto-proof legislation to ban abortion totally.

If your only issue is banning abortion, I’m just wondering who your candidate will be. And once you find that candidate, please share his name with the rest of the world.

Well, I'll try this one. For starters I'd like to have a GOP nominee who respects life and supports the Republican platform on the "life issue" of 2004 and 2000 and 1996. This includes protection of life in the womb and at the end of life (e.g. Terri Schiavo's situation). There are several candidates who have supported the so-called "woman's right to choose" including Giuliani -- who has even endorsed government funding of abortions. I will not support such a candidate, either Republican or Democrat.

I'd also like to see Supreme Court nominees who align themselves with Scalia and Thomas (my personal hero on the bench) who are true strict constructionists as it pertains to our Constitution.

I am compelled by more issues than abortion, and they include those enumerated by Jim Robinson. Included are 2nd amendment freedoms, and opposing the homosexual agenda. I also have strong feelings about so-called "global warming" environmental regulations and illegal immigration and the tax burden of American citizens and the growth of the federal government. But family values issues are personally the most important for me. Let's have a nominee that we not only support but are anxious to endorse and willing to provide sweat and give $$$ to win.

If the opponent is Hillary or Obama, let's make sure we have someone who offers a real & true alternative and not someone who is a cafeteria Republican. We deserve better...

vox, fair enough.

Specifically, I wonder what a GOP president could do to ban abortion entirely. Do you think there’s someone out there who will ban abortion? And if so, who and how would they accomplish it? Appointing justices doesn’t seem to be enough.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not in ANY way a supporter of abortion. I just don’t see it possible to ban abortion with our present political system. If I’m wrong, I’d just like to know how it could be done.

If the the SCOTUS were to recognize the right to life (as in life, liberty, property) and overturn Roe v Wade, many states would find a way to effectively regulate abortion out of existence.... We now at least have a start with the decision on partial birth murder. Next issue might be third trimester killings and gender selection abortions -- something radical feminists don't like to have mentioned...

vox, if is a big word.

I’m seeing conservatives here on FR trashing every candidate they claim is not anti abortion. However, I have yet to see the candidate any claim will ban abortion.

Rudy has stated he would appoint justices like Scalia. Who out there would be able to do more to ban abortion?

And, if the answer, as I suspect, is nobody, then why all the trash talk about Rudy at THIS juncture?

The libs and media are going to trash whoever the GOP candidate is, I just don’t see a constructive reason to trash someone if you don’t have an alternative (other than a liberal democrat).
