Why do we insist on interfering with the law of the jungle? I thought that man was the reason spotted owls were endangered, now we find out it’s just other owls? LOL.

The spotted owl must be preserved! It tastes great when barbequed.

“The barred owls have crowded their cousins, the spotted owls, out of prime habitat, sometimes even attacking them.”

Looked in my bird book and these look pretty much alike. It appears that the only way to accurately tell them apart is to apply the Audubon technique. You shoot them so they hold still while you paint their picture.

the plan to prevent the species from dying out.

The northern spotted owl is not a species. It's a subspecies. The writer and editor don't care about that fact, though.

I recently moved to a more rural area, though not really out in the country. The other night we could hear two owls hooting at each other for a long time. I’ve never heard that before in my life. It was cool.
