Look, it’s clear Fred wants the nomination by acclamation. Ain’t gonna happen. He needs to get in the damn fight. We are 10 months away from the first primary, and while I don’t know what the point is, very soon we will be at a point where it will be impossible to mobilize a campaign and funds in time to run. So it’s time for Fred to you know what or get off the pot.
I'm no expert either but I'm guessing if he's going to run the announcement will be in May.
If I'm right and he is, the wheels in the back room are already in motion.
I don’t think it’s clear that Fred wants or expects to get the nomination by acclamation as you say. He didn’t seriously begin considering this until 3 possibly 4 months ago. While many of us- including me- want him to announce already, there were reasons for him to have waited. First, to determine whether there really IS a level of support for him, rather than simply Anyone Who Isn’t Rudy. Then, he announced the news about his indolent lympoma. While measuring that, he’s continued to write pieces for ABC radio, and blogs at RedState and Townhall. To date, the only direction his numbers have been going is up.
There are also the legal issues to be resolved with L & O etc. I’ve read many differing opinions about what that means and doesn’t mean with residuals, equal time, etc. that it’s hard to know WHAT the facts are. I imagine he’s got some smart lawyers working on it, don’t you?
Absurd. Fred is getting the buzz $100,000,000 and months on the campaign trail could not buy. Fred has passed candidates who have spent millions and have been campaigning full time.
do you not credit Fred Thompson with the political savvy to know when the time is right? do freepers honestly believe that WE KNOW BETTER than these political figures? seriously, i trust that fred knows the score, he knows which primaries are when, and he knows what he needs and how to go about running.
Agreed. To date my hopes have been with Rudy, but Thompson would be “the candidate” for me. If he doesn’t get the nomination, I’m sure Dick Wolf and NBC would be more than happy to let him come back to playing D.A. Arthur Branch.. But America needs another actor to play the President, and after twenty-eight years, its high time...
