Tanker truck explosion caused part of the upperdeck of the maze approaching the Bay Bridge to collapse.

What was initially reported to the California Highway Patrol as a fire at around 3:42 a.m. Sunday quickly escalated to an explosion and roadway collapse on roadway that connects eastbound Interstate Highway 80 to eastbound Interstate Highway 580, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.

According to the dispatcher, the roadway was destroyed after a tanker caught on fire and exploded, causing the driver to suffer second degree burns.
The tanker was under the overpass.
Chopper11 showed at least two sections of the maze collapsed.
The dispatcher said there is no word on when the roadway will be open and it could be days if not months before traffic resumes as usual on this stretch of road.

This is in the first paragraph. California highway patrol, resonding to CA accident(I would assume)on Highways 80 and 580 in the BAY AREA. Only one bay area in CA. Even if you don't know that, you know that the accident happened in CA and you know the highways involved. I cannot immagine how you would think it happened anywhere BUT Calfornia given the explicit nature of the reporting on this fact. I mean are any of the bays you mentioned located in CA? I think not but I could be wrong.
If it was terrorism, why do it on Sunday morning when there will be little or no immediate casulties? Why blow up the pipeline in rural Illinois, rather than one of the many populated areas the pipeline runs through?
It's OK to cap words or phrases for emphasis.
Maybe the cab driver was a friend who was waiting nearby.

And in each of those areas, the local news would call it the Bay Bridge and not tell you what city and state it is in. NBC11 is a local TV station. It was not written as a national news story. Someone just happened to find it on the local news and post it for the world to see.
Yesterday they imploded the Fulton Road Bridge where I live. The local paper and news did not have to tell me it was in Cleveland, Ohio.
I guess he thought you would read the story.
That explosion caused so much damage, it looks like deliberate sabotage.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Sometimes an accident is just an accident. Truckers are usually salt of the earth people, but a lot of them will do anything to make their time. Early morning, this guy wants to get home, is speeding and loses control. Actually I would guess this might be a licensing scandal, a unqualified driver rather than terrorism.
LOL Yes I knew this happened in CA but I was talking about *countless* other times when “the bay area” is mentioned and we are all expected to just *KNOW* where they are talking about, as if there is only ONE bay.. BTW a similar accident happened here in Houston this past week and a freeway overpass will be out of commission for 6 months to a year (no bay involved).
That is alot of damage. I wonder who reported the fire, the driver? It’s obvious that he was gone before the explosion.

Matching this map with the nice picture in Post #8 above, it looks like the ramp connecting 80 westbound to 880 southbound collapsed onto the ramp connecting 80 eastbound to 580 westbound.
This is relatively good news.
The bottom ramp, 80 east to 580 west, should be able to be reopened fairly soon, I would hope, once the debris is cleared away, if it did not suffer serious structural damage. This ramp is the major evening traffic flow for commuters returning from San Francisco to much of the east bay (Oakland and most of Alameda county).
The top ramp is a flaming disaster and no doubt will take months to rebuild. But it is one of the least traveled paths through this maze, for travelers going south along the east side of the Bay, from Berkeley and points north, to Hayward and Fremont and points south. And the 980 freeway, a few miles to the east, can offload much of this traffic.
But for the next few weeks, until the 80 east to 580 east ramp is cleared, the evening commute out of San Francisco is going to be a bitch.
One: There is only one Bay Bridge in CA.
Two:I did not tell you that should know where the bay bridge is.
Three: I did tell you that you should know where CA is and that the accident happened in CA on the interchange of Hwys 80 and 580 and that should give you a rough idea where the accident happened.
four:Take it personally? Of course I do, anytime someone insults me I take it personally. You took it personally when I told you that you were wrong about the article and you insulted me, but I was supposed to just let you do that without responding?
Five:I am assuming you live in the US. The article states it happened in CA and on what highways. If you live in the states you should know that CA is one of the states. Therefore you had all the information you needed to tell the approximate location of the accident and a quick check of any number of online maps would pretty well pin point the location.
You are whining now and trying to act like I over re-acted to your gross insult, when in reality you were caught making a stupid statement and you don't like that so you are lashing out. You are the one who needs to get a grip. People like you are the reason liberals are disliked so much, they have the same annoying habit of not admitting when they are wrong about something, just as you will not admit this article tells you what you need to know.
The tanker was carrying 8,600 gallons of gas (unleaded). Another reason for prices to increase, not that it’s legit or that they need a reason.
In this case why not cut the news people some slack. The fact that local stories go international on the web is not yet fully integrated by the news writers who have always produced this material for local consumption.
