I remembered when I was in Jr. High (middle school) that the bathrooms were to be places to be avoided ! I was fortunate that I did not have to go #2 at school during my time there. H.S. was different. 99% of people had enough sense to leave you alone while you are taking care of business.

I would be in favor of implementing a design of fully enlosed stalls (no cracks, no openings). When someone needs to go #2, the design would ensure complete privacy and provide a means of being left alone.

At my son's school, the sinks are out in the hallway which is interesting.

I believe one of the oldest bars in the country, McSorley’s in NYC, when finally court-ordered to allow women into the bar (early 70’s IIRC), just kept the one bathroom.

I recently took a walk through my old high school in a fairly wealthy suburb, a town with the proverbial "great school system." There were no doors on any of the stalls, just as when I was in high school. I don't know if the kids tore them off or what, but there haven't been doors on the stalls for at least 25 years now.

They have added shiny chrome plates over the sinks to replace the glass ones that were constantly smashed.

Take a walk through your great school system sometime. You never know what you'll find.

Also, there was an earth flag hanging from the ceiling of the gym, and no American flag.

I can see how some bathrooms could be fixed up, but this is goofy. There is such a fear of being offended as though it is the worst thing in the world. I think the goal of these people are to eventually have one bathroom for all people, men, women, and those questioning their sexuality (who now are getting their own bathroom).
