LA police to review use of force during clash with demonstrators

Los Angeles (AP) --

A day of mostly calm immigration rallies around the nation ended with a clash in Los Angeles where officers fired rubber bullets and used batons against demonstrators. Police promised to review the use of force.

Several people, including about a dozen officers, were hurt during skirmishes at MacArthur Park near downtown late Tuesday. About 10 people were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries including cuts, authorities said. None of the injuries was believed to be serious.

At least one person was arrested, Officer Mike Lopez said late Tuesday.

May Day marches in Los Angeles brought out about 25,000 people, only a fraction of the 650,000 who rallied last year. Turnout nationwide was also light compared with a year ago.

Organizers said fear about raids and frustration that the marches haven't pushed Congress to pass reform kept many people at home. They said those who did march felt a sense of urgency to keep immigration reform from being overshadowed by the 2008 presidential elections.

The clash at MacArthur Park started after 6 p.m. when police tried to disperse demonstrators who had moved off the sidewalk onto the street. Authorities said several people of the few thousand still at the rally threw rocks and bottles at officers, who fired rubber bullets and used batons to push the crowd back onto the sidewalk.

I'd like to see the corresponding report from the other side:

A day of mostly calm immigration rallies around the nation ended with a clash in Los Angeles where demonstrators used violence against police trying to maintain peace. The Azatlan Illegal Alien Demonstration Society promised to review the use of force.

Hah!

The only thing they should review and consider is the possible upgrade to real ammunition instead of sponge balls.

What? Are they going to make examples of the police now like they are doing to the border patrol?

Did anyone catch it? KCBS-TV in Los Angeles showed a still photo of the melee and credited FreeRepublic.com for it!

The photo was actually posted (pasted) here from the LATimes website!

Fox News have been reporting on this all morning.  The illegals started it.  It was nasty.  One Fox Photographer was slammed to the ground.

Outside of that, the illegals were pulling up their shirts showing what damage those rubber bullets did to them.

I look for more of this happening as these illegal parasites sucking the life blood from America continues.

This is so much Bull$—t!

1. LAPD operates on Intelligence drawn from groups.
2. There obviously had been reported threats of disturbances
and/or rioting. LAPD suited up.
3. Standard tactic of radicals: Incite authorities, and have strategically placed camera people. Film the resonse, sue the authorities.
CONCLUSION: LAPD only countered force rendered aqginst them.

4.

I just saw the video on Fox News.

Sooner or later we are gonna have one hellofa race war in this country!
These illegals need to back to their own country and protest.
Their problems are with their own country and government, not ours!

..”Authorities said several people of the few thousand still at the rally threw rocks and bottles at officers”.
Gee...I wonder what would happen If I went to Mexico City, demanded legal status and threw rocks and bottles at police officers?...

A dozen officers hurt and one person arrested? What's wrong with that picture....

You know I have been wondering something.

Maybe the illegal aliens are not voting the way “they should”, and the result has been the quiet crack down we are seeing nationwide.

You know what they say......
.
If you go looking for trouble you just might find it. The people who were at this location (this includes the cameraman from Ch 52 who got his butt kicked) were there operating outside the political arena to create an outcome that they couldn’t get by political means (eg. calling your elected Representative) and discussing it with them. It’s fine to gather in public “PEACEFULLY” but once the bottles & rocks started flying weather or not you did it you are part of this crowd and therefore part of the problem. The Police have every right to use as much force as they need to avoid any further rioting....remember the L.A. Riots, I remember jogging that night and smelling the burning buildings...NOT GOOD....these Protesters need to be “Smacked Down” and if your dumb enough to be there AND STAY THERE your taking the risk of some injuries.

They see Aztlan as their country. It is the Western Intifada as “The Race”/La Raza takes back “their ancestors’ land”.

You wouldn’t even be legally permitted to protest in Mexico as you are not a citizen of that country. And don’t count on the US consulate doing much in your defense for willingly breaking Mexican law.

He's MY review of the LAPD's actions.

1.12 officers hurt.
2.No bottle/rock throwing protesters killed.

conclusion: we'll have to try harder to item #2.

The real question is why LAPD did not deport over 100,000 yesterday with the help of ICE/INS? The real question is why our government does not serve its people and allows our money to be spent on 3rd World felons that only hurt our economy and culture, despite GWB’s pleas for a North American Union.
