Ten Cent Beer NightTen Cent Beer Night was a promotion held by Major League Baseball during a game against the Texas Rangers at Cleveland Stadium on Tuesday, June 4, 1974. The idea behind the promotion was to attract more fans to the game by offering 12 U.S. fl oz (354.9 ml) cups of 3.2% beer for just 10 cents each (regular price was 65 cents) with a limit of six per purchase. During the game, fans became heavily intoxicated, culminating in a riot in the ninth inning which caused the game to be forfeited due to the crowd's uncontrollable rowdiness and because the game...

BALTIMORE -- Footage from Baltimore Police body cameras and the downtown CitiWatch surveillance network shows groups of youths gathered Saturday night at the Inner Harbor randomly breaking into fights with each other — and at times committing more serious assaults. It shows clusters of kids casually chatting on the promenade around the water, but also sprinting along sidewalks and into traffic. It shows a large group fighting in the middle of Pratt Street, a half-dozen youths attacking a bicyclist on the ground, one teen jumping on the roofs of two cars, and another randomly kicking a passerby in the face...

Another “mostly peaceful” left-wing event which ended in a riot, though the violence, in this case, wasn’t one-sided. The event started earlier in the day as a “festival of resistance” in support of anti-fascism and anti-capitalism. People put up tables hawking books about communism, etc. But just as Portland police were declaring the event a success, fighting broke out at a pro-Antifa bar called Cider Riot. This KGW report does a decent job summarizing the day but I’ll go into more detail below: Reporter Mike Bivins was on hand as various left-wing people gathered in a park not far...

This was an inspired read when Kirt referred to it in his latest editorial. Twenty-six years ago, from April 29 to May 4,1992, much of Los Angeles was ablaze. In the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict, South Central L.A. was consumed by riots and looting. Homes and business were burglarized and destroyed by arson. Law-abiding people and business owners were mugged, beaten and robbed. The LAPD pulled out and basically told folks in the worst-hit areas that they were on their own. But a small section of Los Angeles known as Koreatown, located just north of South Central, didn’t burn. Why?...

It’s a warm summer evening and Devan Clapp is standing outside his two-story brick row house in northeast Baltimore’s Ramblewood neighborhood. The streets are quiet, with postage-stamp lawns; a transition area between the city and the suburbs of Baltimore County just a couple miles north. This neighborhood, like every other Baltimore neighborhood Clapp’s family has lived in the last hundred years, was predominantly white, before it wasn’t. He talks of how, in the 1980s, the skin color of his mother and father, godmother and brother, drove their white neighbors up and over to the “more-welcoming” side of the county line....

WHY WE WROTE THIS France’s “yellow vest” protesters have been highly visible, but their motives have been cryptic, thanks in large part to their lack of leaders and structure. We wanted to find out what's driving them. MULHOUSE, FRANCE For Rosa Larocca, a middle-aged headmistress who can switch from a warm smile to a stern look in seconds, it’s all about politics. “The people want a different type of republic and they want [French President Emmanuel] Macron to go,” she says. “What we want are referendums.” For Shanoon Redovanc, a bespectacled retiree sporting a black woolen hat, it’s about living...
