NEW YORK As the so-called "D.C. Madam" case unfolds in the nation's capital, with alleged prostitution ringleader Jeane Palfrey claiming a list of thousands of prominent clients, Washington-area editors say they are following the story, but remain reluctant to print such a list, were it available, without serious scrutiny.
"You would have to evaluate it to the extent humanly possible and verify it," said Michael Tackett, Washington bureau chief for the Chicago Tribune.

Andrew Alexander, Washington bureau chief for Cox Newspapers, which serves 17 daily papers, also urged caution when exposing anyone on the list. "It would be a starting point to do additional reporting," he said about any list the bureau might obtain. "We would have to see who is on the list, we would have to look at matters of fairness, and of accuracy."
(Snip) Doyle McManus, Los Angeles Times Washington bureau chief, offered a similar caution. "There is a legitimate story here in several ways, but it is not the biggest story of the year," he said. "If I had a list, I'd look at it and work from it. You have to look at each [name] individually. There is a public figure test."
Fran Coombs, managing editor of The Washington Times, also urged careful reviews of any names, noting that the Internet can prompt some to push information like this out too soon. "People post things on the Internet without knowing what is true and what is not," he said. "We would not just print it, we would look at it. You see who is on it and make some calls. Right now, we are just kind of watching the story."

If it has lots of the Washington Democrat Elite, this story gets buried faster than a Clinton Aide in Marcy Park...(IMHO)
No guts.... No Pulitzer...
“TRANSLATION: “We just don’t know how many important DEMOCRATS are on the list, yet!!” “
Actually, I’d say it tells us they realized it after they released a couple of GOP names, and now are desperately trying to walk backwards.
Its not going to work, eventually the entire list will come out.
It’s not a story if it’s a Rat. Everybody already assumes they cavort with hookers.
If she's got cancelled checks, now we're talking!
Notice they won’t HESITATE to publish Repub names, but they have “Concerns” when it comes to publishing Democrats?
Yeah, hold off on mentioning the Democrat clients until their useful time in office is over or until this all blows over after tiring the public on the revelations around all the Republican clients.
I hope the liberal media continues to suffer a cruel death.
Will she release the list? All there seems to be is speculation.
I heard she supposedly released it, but then others say she still hasn’t.
What exactly is the truth?
If she does release it, surely it will hit the net eventually, even if newspapers don’t want to print the names.
“Its not a story if its a Rat. Everybody already assumes they cavort with hookers.”
Sadly, I think you’re right...
When you have no moral compass, why should you have a complusion about using a hooker?
No way! Not with [cue heroic music] BLOGGERS out there!!!
Da da da! :-)
No way this stuff will stay ‘secret’. Not in this day and age.
“you have to look at each (name) individually. There is a public figure test”
says it all in the heathens own words.....that is cherry pickin big time
They were happy to leak the poor sap Tobias’ name though.
Now if there were a preponderance of REPUBLICANS on the list, the speed at which a (redacted) list would be published would be dizzying.
The redaction, of course, would include every Democratican party member or contributor on the list.
I agree. If I were working for a newspaper, even if there were tons of juicy names, I would work on trying to legitimize the list first before “outing” anybody.
At the same time, being the net, we have a passion for all these types of documents just being posted online without verification.
Post it online. We will see it, and somebody will be able to track down the legitimacy of the list.
Please don’t get me started on Ex-Lilly CEO Tobias...
“Put the Moose on the Table”...
If anyone has ever met him, you’ll know EXACTLY what I mean...
I’m glad he’s gone. Sounds like he was a waste of taxpayer money anyway.
No, its says they don’t want to get sued for printing false and defamatory information.
Translation: There is a party affiliation test.
"Yo, Teddy. I got you on the list - is that true?"
"naw."
"OK, thanks." Spike it!
