For Most Bush Voters, No Regrets After 2 Years
New York Times ^ | May 2, 2007 | JANET ELDER

George W. Bush was elected to a second term by a big majority of Republicans, half of political independents and 11 percent of Democrats. Now, more than two years later, the majority of those voters say they are satisfied with the Bush presidency. But some have lost faith, and those who have say it is because they can no longer back Mr. Bush’s support of the war in Iraq.

Fifty-eight percent of Mr. Bush’s voters say their feelings about the administration can best be described as satisfied but not enthusiastic. Nine percent said they are enthusiastic. But 26 percent said they were dissatisfied and 6 percent said they were angry, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll taken in March.

When asked if they approve of the way Mr. Bush is doing his job, 66 percent said they approve while 21 percent said they disapprove and 13 percent are unsure.

“No more needs to be said :D”

Not that great a trade for the trillions of new debt, the expansion of the welfare state, amnesty and the possible shift in the balance of political power that brings, the “religion of peace”, Mel “Amnestia” Martinez as the new “General Chair” of the RNC, finally having a Congress he could “work with” after 2006, the engineered increase of Muslim immigration into the US after 9/11, celebrating our enemy’s holiday in the White House (Eid), celebrating “Cinco de Mayo” (which is NOT an American holiday at all) in the White House while Mexicans march with their flag in our streets, and insulting Americans to a foreign audiences (said speech available at the WH website).....

There’s plenty for Conservatives to be angry with him over.

Kerry still would’ve been worse, but I would like - FOR ONCE - to not have to hold my nose and vote for the liberal with an “R” to avoid the liberal with a “D”.

“He has been positively Churchillian on this, and history will remember him as one of our most courageous presidents.”

I generally agree with your other too points, but the President won’t even name our enemy in this war and has never fought it as one.

Come on, his Administration intends to arm Fatah AGAIN!

I do not regret my vote for the President and if I could, I would vote for him in 2008. I love W!

You’re wrong about this. The fact is that we’ve achieved military victory in both Iraq and Afghanistan and are succeeding in the much more difficult task of stablizing the countries post-war.

No, I’m not. Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t the totality of the war. They’re just two theaters in the war.

Agreed that the war doesn’t end when Iraq and Afghanistan are stablized, but only the President and those who support him are willing to pursue the terrorists where we find them (including in Iran and Syria). Right now the President is building strongholds in the Middle East for the inevitable conflicts with Iran and Syria that are coming. It’s sad to see that even some FReepers have gone wobbly on the Iraq war, which is part of the War on Terror.

This is why I feel that on the War on Terror, Bush HAS been Churchillian. He will be vindicated by history.

Is he? Why is his Administration funding Fatah? Why is SA and the UAE considered “staunch allies” when they fund the Sunni half of international terrorism and the spread of Jihad?

Praising your enemy isn’t Churchillian at all. Encouraging Muslim immigration into your country isn’t Churchillian. Not living up to your rhetoric isn’t Churchillian.

There is no “War on Terror”. Terror is a tactic. There is a war going on, but he will not name the enemy for fear of offending them.

BTW, I’m not sure I agree that a stronghold in the ME is one with a constitution that places Islam as the highest law. Has no one studied Kemal and Turkey?

I voted for W twice and am satisfied with his leadership. Were he to be able to run again, he would get my support. I am a lot more supportive of him whenever he acts in a more conservative manner. I am in doubt of him whenever he wanders off the reservation and panders to Democrats.
Wandering and Pandering does not serve him, the country or any of us well.
