A senior from a Texas high school will not be going to his graduation ceremony after designing 3D levels of his school in a shooting game.

Officers came into his home and reportedly found five swords which they deemed a level 3 terrorist threat. Since then, the unnamed man had been transferred to an "alternate education facility"

What kind of morons do we have running this mad house?

Neither in Columbine or Virginia Tech did the perp(s) practice on a video game, nor in any other such attack that I'm aware of. The authorities are stupid to even contemplate this situation. If the kid is actually up to no good these actions won't stop him anyway. Real terrorists wouldn't make their maps known for fear of actions like this.

Also, it's LEGAL to own a sword, or a gun for that matter. Posession of a weapon is not probable cause of intent to commit a crime.

I'm of half a mind to make maps of my local schools and put them on the net myself now.

We MUST do something about this sort of abuse. It takes our resources off the real threats and wastes them on a wild goose chase. The authorities are becoming the threat, and fast. When someone can do a perfectly legal activity and still have the wrath of the state come down on them, then the system has gone haywire. They better wise up and fast because this sort of behavior on the part of the state WILL produce the next crop of Timothy McVeigh's.

Wonder how many Doom3 or Quake4 maps are based on schools and such.

All I’ve got to say is, they’d better not come into my house! Nate just finished a class in Japanese swordsmanship and won the contest of the best in the class and won a sword and the kids have several others.
I’m pretty sure they’d take us all away if they knew........

“The minute we don’t (take something serious), something serious is going to happen," a member of the school's district administration said. "You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t."

Life is tough if you are stupid.

I’ve played plenty of them in Half-Life 2.

What’s happened in this article is reprehensible. The idiots that decide to shoot up their school (as previously mentioned) don’t practice, learn from, or get influence by playing these stupid games.

I saw a report on the news this morning and the game is a pretty obvious replica of the school. I really have to wonder what kind of twisted individual would model a school in a shooter game.

after designing 3D levels of his school in a shooting game

This doesn't provide the information we need. Did he design a 3d building and CALL it his school, or did he simply USE the layout of his school IN a 3-d game?

If he used the layout of his school, he didn't design it, he just copied it, and it's probably because it was easier than designing something.

If he had NAMED his location after his school, that might be a sign of something worse, or just a guy being funny. You have to be careful about being funny anymore, because with .0001% of our population being killed by complete nutcases, it's important that we take away the rights of millions of people to have fun, joke, and even be insensitive about people being killed.

Then I'm in really, really bad trouble. I'm a blackbelt in karate, I have a samurai sword, and I have a few rifles to boot, all of which is legal. Nevertheless, I must be the worst threat ever...

They might, once they’ve got all the guns and realise that people could get killed with swords probably as easy as a gun if they are trapped in a room with only one way out.

After all, look what that chick did in “Kill Bill”. :-)

In case of point, I know some HL players that have discussed doing just this. None of them were threats to anyone, nor were they twisted. You don't know what you're talking about.

It’s obvious that the government considers ALL citizens criminals who would use guns, swords, autoblades, etc. to commit crime. We can’t be trusted with dangerous items or materials.
When the govt. doesn’t trust us it’s WAY past time we stopped trusting it. Think about it. In your personal relationships if you were always expected to do the worst wrong thing how long would you want to keep those friends, lovers, or work for that company? For some reason I’ll never get why people don’t apply this to thier relationship to thier government.

Well, counter strike is a “Counter Terrorist vs Terrorist” multi-player game over either a LAN or internet.
And while the ‘adults’ in my area are loathe to talk about the possibility of terrorism in the classroom, the kids have been talking about it for quite some time.
Likely there have been school based maps for quite awhile, just the Virginia Tech event made people touchy about it.
Not excusing it, just stating that it likely has been ‘out there’ for awhile.

The Virginia Tech moron didn’t play Counterstrike or HalfLife2 from what I understand.

He was a movie buff.
