Bush Warns of Vetoes Over Abortion Issue
New York Times ^ | May 4, 2007

President Bush told Congressional leaders Thursday that he would veto any legislation that weakened federal policies or laws on abortion.

In a two-page letter sent to the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Mr. Bush said his veto threat would apply to any measures that “allow taxpayer dollars to be used for the destruction of human life.”

Douglas Johnson, legislative director for National Right to Life, characterized the president’s message as “drawing a bright line.”

A statement from the group noted that many appropriations bills that Congress will take up include provisions to limit federal financing of abortion and that abortion rights groups have been urging Democratic leaders in Congress to change.

For example, a provision is under consideration for a foreign appropriations bill that would end a ban on discussing abortion in family planning clinics in developing nations.

Isn’t there even one Senator who will filibuster some of this stupid stuff coming from the Democrats? Why haven’t they learned anything from the Dems in the last few years? Why leave it all to the President. Disgusting.

"Where did President Bush find his veto pen?"

In his political capital drawer, I'd suppose.

Very simple: Unlike Frist, Reid actually has the balls to use the nuclear option and change the rules on filibusting.

“Where did President Bush find his veto pen?”

Under his desk - it seems Clinton must have dropped it.

“allow taxpayer dollars to be used for the destruction of human life.”

This is exactly what Giuliana has favored in the past, and would want to do if elected - spend our money for abortions. The pitch is, it would only be for certain cases, like the mother’s life is endangered, blah blah blah. But it would quickly turn into an entitlement for the poor and minorities, sanctioning murder paid for by us.

I know we like to joke about it, but there’s two very good reasons why we don’t see as many vetoes from this President as we do from others.

1) His veto could be easily overeridden (eg McInsane/Feincrud)

2) Pork and baloney kept being attached to other vitally needed bills that the President would loathe to veto. (Anti-Gambling lunacy attached to Port Security)

Like I said, at the rate these traitors are going, he may accrue the most veotes of any President in history.
