Chicago Catholics Outraged by Hillary Speech

Catholics in Chicago are fuming that Sen. Hillary Clinton will be featured as the keynote speaker at a Catholic charity luncheon this coming Sunday.

The Chicago-based Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, an organization run by Catholic priests, invited Mrs. Clinton despite the Church's prohibition of giving pro-abortion political figures a public forum to speak.

LifeSiteNews notes that in 2004 the "US Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a policy document calling on Catholic institutions not to have pro-abortion politicians put on a pedestal due to the scandal it would cause."

Despite the Church's directive, Chicago's Cardinal Francis George has approved Clinton's appearance. Mark Schmeltzer, as spokesman for the youth home, told LifeSiteNews that the Cardinal inquired about the event but did not object to it.

"The Cardinal had some very understandable misgivings but he just wanted to be assured this was not a political stop," Schmeltzer told LifeSiteNews.com.

But some Catholic activists are still angry. Joseph Scheidler, national director of the Pro-Life Action League, is planning to lead a demonstration outside the Clinton event.

Schmeltzer said he was pleased that a "high profile" person as Senator Clinton would address his organization. She is set to discuss education issues.

"Schmeltzer said he was pleased that a "high profile" person as Senator Clinton would address his organization?"

I guess it doesn't matter to Schmeltzer what the Pope says...and parishes & pastors in America wonder why their attendance has fallen!

Why, no. Not at all. Nothing political about this. She's only running for president!

There are plenty of socialists in the lower orders of the Catholic hierarchy, and they are probably thrilled to have her speak.

“The Cardinal had some very understandable misgivings but he just wanted to be assured this was not a political stop...”

Sounds like the Cardinal is easily fooled.

Well as long as The Cardinal is assured that Hillary's appearance is not about politics, I guess it must be ok.

I hope she is cancelled! (they never think twice about cancelling Republicans, and it would send a GREAT message)

They ought to do with HRC what the Catholic school in MO did with the evil Sen McCaskill. Withdraw the invitation!

I thought the good Cardinal recently fractured his hip, not his reasoning.

It looks like money corrupts. Why else would the Mercy Home for Boys & Girls compromise their integrity?

The Catholic Church openly supports illegal immigration. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise to anyone that it would have no qualms about inviting a pro-baby-killing politician to speak as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What does this guy use for a brain?
Anything Hillary is involved in is political.
That the cardinal does this is no surprise really ,I have always seen how the Princes of the Church greet and fall all over themselves in the presence of the Kennedy’s, the true Catholic royalty,no matter that the Kennedy’s have misdealings, annullments and backing of abortion.
My suggestion is that people in Chicago avoid the collection plate this week to let the Cardinal know how they feel.
“The Catholic Church openly supports illegal immigration.”
The Priests are smart. They know that if they can get people already trained to be easily fleeced they can continue the easy lifestyle. Its hard to be a Bishop these days as American Catholics are not as well trained in obedience to lower authorities.
Exactly. Anyone who cannot see the political implications of this speech is a fool.
I realize you’re new around here but to say that the Catholic Church supports abortion is moronic.
Ya might try keeping your thoughts to yourself and let people think you a fool than to post them and remove all doubt!
