I realize you’re new around here but to say that the Catholic Church supports abortion is moronic.

Then why is it giving a forum to a major presidential candidate who supports abortion?

There are many religious leaders, Catholic and otherwise, who will not give a pro-abortion politician the time of day because they stand on their principles. Why is this organization being given a free pass on this action? If the higher ups in the Church truly frown upon abortion, then why have they not intervened to prevent this sort of an event?

if you actually READ the article, the cardinal made it specifically clear that it was NOT to be a POLITICAL speech...
and before it is over, Clinton will probably be uninvited.

Religious give others the benefit of the doubt...
unfortunately, when it comes to a Clinton, they cannot be trusted!!!

It continues to puzzle me why the majority of Catholics still vote for Democrats. Having boarded with a devout Catholic family for 2 summers as a kid and came to know and love them almost as my own family, I would have thought that all practicing Catholics would be so offended by the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual policies of the Democrats that they would renounce their traditonal allegiance to the Democrat party that was probably formed during the FDR/depression era.

Most Republicans I know were once loyal Southern Democrats, but have since switched to the GOP mainly due to the extreme liberal social policies of the Democrats. OTOH a devout Catholic man from Michigan who once worked for me and whose wife and kids marched in anti-abortion protests every year remained a rabidly loyal, Reagan-hating, Clinton-loving Democrat for as long as I knew him. Go figure.

Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to turn this thread into another Catholic vs Protestant free for all, just mentioning the rather odd inconsistency I have observed concerning this issue.

Archbishop Burke does not allow these pro abortion advocates to use the Catholic Church as a forum for their their abortion perspective!

Apparently Cardinal George does not have a back bone and is afraid to strongly support a pro life position against the Pro Abortion politicians!

Cardinal George lacks the courage of his convictions to support the pro life movement agains the Pro Abortion Politicians.

Afterall, if you are a politician in illiois you are Pro Abortion!

Senator Dick “the Catholic” Durbin is a pro abortion Catholic in good standing with Cardinal Georg2!

You have to distinguish between “practicing” Catholics and CINO’s(Catholics in Name Only) or what we Catholics refer to as “Cafeteria Catholics” who just pick & choose what they want to believe, what sacraments they receive and what Commandments to obey. The “Cafeteria Catholics” usually only show up for Mass on Christmas and maybe Easter Sunday.

Praciticing Catholics are conservatives who usually vote “R”. While the CINO’s are liberals who if they vote at all, vote “D”.

“The Cardinal had some very understandable misgivings but he just wanted to be assured this was not a political stop,”

Not even a Cardinal could be this niave.

I spoke to someone at the Archdiocese of Chicago.

She explained to me that the event is not at the Mercy Home and is not organized by the Mercy Home or the Archdiocese.

It’s planned and organized by WBBM Radio, and Clinton was invited by WBBM. It just so happens that some of the money raised by the event will go to the Marcy Home. The Archdiocese can’t really prevent her from raising money for the Mercy Home, it’s up to the Mercy Home (a separate organization from the Archdiocese) to say that they don’t want her blood money.

'....traditonal allegiance to the Democrat party that was probably formed during the FDR/depression era......"

Indeed it was. Blue collar workers, especially Catholic Irish, Italians, etc., were a huge Roosevelt Democrat constituency.

My 85 year old Mom, God Bless her, still thinks that the Democrat party is run by or descended from Roosevelt & Co.

When I try to describe how the party has been hijacked by the '60's Communist hippie left, she simply cannot connect. And continues to vote for Democrats. Sigh....

A pro-abortion nitwit speaking at a Christian foundation. That’s like having ted kennedy speak at a rally for prohibition.

“Sounds like the Cardinal is easily fooled.”

Tell me about it! Hitlery couldn’t go to the bathroom without making a political stop on the way.

“The Catholic Church openly supports illegal immigration. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise to anyone that it would have no qualms about inviting a pro-baby-killing politician to speak as well.”

The way I see it, the Catholic church is only for things such as illegal immigration and against the death penalty because of their beliefs. But since the Catholic church teaches that abortion is wrong, letting hitlery speak is an outrageous surprise. So don’t act like the Catholic church is pandering to the left.
