Madam Story Keeps Mum on Clientele '20/20'Declines to Identify Those Not Already Known
Washington Post ^ | May 5, 2007 | Howard Kurtz

During several weeks of calls to possible clients of the woman dubbed the D.C. Madam, Brian Ross of ABC confirmed that some fairly important people had used her escort service. But when he put together last night's segment for "20/20," the network's chief investigative reporter decided against outing anyone beyond the two people who already had been identified. "They just weren't newsworthy enough," ABC's Brian Ross said of the names. (By Donna Svennevik -- Abc)

"Their names won't mean anything to our audience," Ross said in an interview. "They just weren't newsworthy enough." Instead, he said, "what we really wanted to do is demonstrate the range of official Washington" involved with the escort service. Their positions, as described by Ross, made them important, at least by the capital's standards: A federal prosecutor, who recently died. A handful of military officers, including the head of an Air Force intelligence squadron. A senior official at the World Bank and other officials at

What if the only Republican on the list is Mark Foley???
;-)

Taking bets now on how long before the list shows up on the internet!

I bet 500 quatloos it is less than a week before names are leaked out...

It’s not a list of names - it’s a list of phone numbers.

Figure it this way, they were going to out republicans only, but it will be too obvious there were dems they won't name. So they ducked for cover and plan to leak the republicans through other channels.

Can't see any other explanation, weren't they just on O'Reilly touting the exposures they were about to make? And of course an obscure Bush administration guy was outed.

something is really suspicious here - why not just release the names and let the public decide whether or not it is newsworthy?

I agree with this “madame”...if she is going to do time, then the guys need to pay a penalty as well.

I’ve never understood why the prostitutes get dragged off to jail while the men get to skulk away.

Palfrey made clear that she gave ABC the phone records to help her defense, because she needed assistance in identifying past clients who could be called as witnesses.

This explanation is patently absurd. It's actually hilarious! This story is good for a few chuckles.

So it seems her circle of clients was largely the international aid crowd, overpaid mostly Euro lefties enjoying their post-Christian lifestyle. ABC is right, nothing surprising there.

This just means that the list contains the names of liberals, perhaps including some liberal journalists.

Oh, I have no doubts that ABC can cross-reference any phone number and put a name to it! They might even have a mole in the NSA for all we know. ;-)

They’re hiding something. No doubt in my mind.

Eh, maybe.

But, really, do senior politicians have any need of escorts? I’d think they’d have women willing to whore themselves out for free.

My guess is that they got a list of second and third-rank bureaucrats who no one has ever heard of before (I mean - given that the outed the Bush guy, it’s reasonable to conclude that he was probably the highest-ranking Republican they found), and suddenly ran aground, ethically.

Frankly, I just don’t think that there’s much of a point in playing in these waters, even if there are numerically more Democrats on the list - since, as the Foley scandal made clear, Republicans and Democrats are held to different stanards by the media.

Neither did the name Scooter Libby, but that didn't stop the news media back then.

The first thing I thought when I watched that was, “I wonder if Bill’s name is on the list?”. But now, I’m thinking that all the Republicans have been outed and only Democrats are left on the list.

There’s alot of speculation about what Democrats are on the list. But what about ABC employees? That wouldn’t be “newsworthy” though.

Think about Hillary and Billary — two young blonde babes, have one turn left at the top of the stairs, the other turn right.
