Durbin says Obama needs Secret Service in part because he's black

Concerns about Sen. Barack Obama's safety that led to him getting a Secret Service detail "had a lot to do with race," Sen. Dick Durbin said Friday.

"I wished we lived in a country where that is not a problem, but it still is," Durbin said. "The fact that Barack Obama is such a highly visible African-American candidate, I think increases his vulnerability."

Obama, vying to become America's first black president, received his Secret Service protection Thursday. It was earlier than any other presidential candidate, excluding Hillary Clinton, who is protected as a former first lady.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in Chicago for Rep. Jan Schakowsky's Ultimate Women's Power Lunch at the Chicago Hilton, was on the panel that recommended Obama be guarded by federal agents.

"I would just say this -- the bipartisan leadership committee that makes this decision, it didn't take long to decide that it would be important for Sen. Obama to have this security," Pelosi said.

The country's first female House speaker, flanked by Secret Service agents, said she couldn't share details, but added: "Suffice to say that it was self-evident that Sen. Obama attracts a great deal of attention wherever he goes, so it was thought, under those circumstances, that he should have" it.

"The fact that Barack Obama is such a highly visible African-American candidate, I think increases his vulnerability."

And, it the DemocRats would stop using race and class and wealth arguments, pitting one group against another in their quest for votes, we probably wouldn't have those problems nearly to the degree that we do. Did you ever consider that Turbin?

Maybe it is best for security’s sake but it kind of gives of the impression that you just can’t trust whitey not to kill a brotha if he gets the chance. The fact that Sharpton and Jackson, who have more power than Obama ever will, still suck air should put this stereotypical, throwback notion to rest. But no. The civil rights struggle is still going on in the minds of Democrats and they need to make themselves appear relevant.

Durbin seems obsessed with proving himself both a traitor and a moron....

I guess there is always the concern of Arkancide, but Durbin is a full-on nut job.

“durbin says obama needs secret service in part because he’s black”

so, mr durbin has single-handedly condemned the people of the united states as hopelessly racist.

(the duplicity of these people never fails to amaze)

looks like mr durbin is practising for when he becomes the commissar of something-or-other in the coming democrat administration(s)...he has to practice making edicts that everyone has to live by. (what a bunch of scu&bags)

Obama needs the Secret Service protection that Vince Foster lacked.

If Obama is a target — I suspect the DNC should be more suspect due their fear this loser becomes their candidate......they can’t allow a DNC plantation hand move into Massa’a bedroom in the big house.....

They kissed up their “Magic Negro” to the extent he has actually become a threat......

Beyond that he may be more the target on the basis of being the stealth Islamic candidate...

Yes, he successfully slandered people in the military, and now
he's going after people who live in the red states.

Of course it could be a way to even up the playing field with Senator Clinton. She gets Secret Service protection because of her husbands former job and it’s obvious when she speaks and meets with people. It gives subtle credibility with a lot of people. His getting Secret Service protection ups his standing. Threats can be real but there is a political aspect to this.

So just becuase a half black man is injected into front runnership it is suddenly a dangerous 3rd world country, thanks Dhims.

But he was somehow dealt a full deck of race cards to play. I wonder if some other person sold some of those cards as a race card offset.

Please let her talk!

Absolutely... the Dem candidates wives are a fountain of loopiness. As bad as Kerry was... Mama T somehow managed to make him worse. And who knows... maybe she helped give Bush Ohio.

If Fred Thompson gets in ( he will ) will they be giving USSS protection to J. C. Watts ? It has been rumored that he would be a likely pick for Thompson’s VP.

I’ll bet they decide that only Black Rats would be in danger.

Well, thank goodness Turban Durbin didn’t call him “articulate”. Liberals are obsessed with race and sex.

This is a classic Chicago tradition to call in an attack on yourself for publicity where there would be none otherwise. It's just a more subtle way of playing the race card like when the black coed cries rape and cuts herself.

Durbin is just doing the Chicago thang.

Blacks commit more than half of all violent crimes in the United States, so any of the candidates have more to fear from that group, particularly young black males, than from any other.

'turbin' durbin, you and rev. al need to figure out how black obammy is.....
then talk.....
otherwise you both will only create confusion and be behaving as racists

oh, that was the plan?
never mind.....

It's plain to see who the racists are!
rev. al and 'turbin' durbin
the 'old media' missed that!

Sigh.

Will the Democrats ever evolve from their racist past? Can't they find a way to see black people as equals not in need of their help or demeaning special treatment?

I think an excellent demonstration of a good-faith effort by Democrats to overcome thier racism would be to get rid of thier Klansman in the Senate. That would be a wonderful start of racial healing for the Democrat party.

The demonrats keep ‘byrd’ on to remind certain people not to stray too far away from the demonrat party or it will be heck to pay. If ‘byrd’ were republican, he would have been gone long, long time ago, as we all know.
