You know what though? I just remembered something. My little sister had ONE of those buttock marks. It was just a birth mark to us. But looking at that photo I’m fairly certain her birthmark was one of those marks.

I was told that the Mongolian spot occurred in the center of the lower back in the coxyx (sp?) area near the buttocks.

My dark complexioned brother had it at birth, but it faded. I am told that in our family it comes from the Mongol invasion into eastern Europe. My mother’s family came from East Prussia/Kaliningrad.

Regarding “black Irish”, I didn’t find reference to that on the link, but my understanding is that they were dark complexioned Irish who resulted from stranded Spaniards of the wrecked Snanish Armada developing a fondness for Irish lasses. As they were usually both Catholic, it worked out.
