Ah, no surprise. I guess they felt it wasn’t good enough to pollute our city with their rainbow banners for only 1 month per year. Now they have “permanent” signs. Let’s see how long they remain permanent...

As far as I can tell, the most decadent (and gayest) parts of the city were very well-preserved during the floods and are back up and booming.

New Orleans is not booming--even in the French Quarter. I was there a couple months ago and the restaurants were half-empty on a Friday night. Some of the business owners I spoke to were lamenting the fact that they might have to close up shop because their insurance races are through the roof and the tourist dollars have not come back.

A few visible projects in the Center City area doesn’t hide the fact that the city has lost more population (69,000) since the 2000 Census than it did in the entire previous decade (68,000). Philly continues to hemorrhage people.

That's what 50 years of Democrat leadership gives you. Nice little rainbow signs over deserted streets.

Good, put them all in a neighborhood by themselves and identify them, they don’t deserve to mingle with normal society.

Many, many people are doing very, very well. They just don’t happen to be the middleclass.

"I would guess that the queers have more money to spend than the average family."

That has to be it. I can't imagine that there's enough ass pirates out there in numbers to be worth targeting, but the few that are out there must have lots of money to spend.

That pales in comparison to the housing, schools, shopping centers, etc that are popping up on the outskirts of Philly. I recently got lost on a country road I’ve travelled many times. There was an entire town where there should have been farms.

The poor citizens of Philadelphia will survive John Street and hopefully elect a mayor with character and a moral compass.

Don't hold your breath.

Can anyone tell me, when is the last time Philthadelphia elected a mayor with character and a moral compass?

Being from Pennsylvania and only about a hour away, I find it funny that the author thinks that Philadephia is a possible vacation spot for families. I have been to Philadelphia about five times in my life. I don’t think the author has to worry about it being a vacation spot.

“New Orleans formally embraced homosexuality for tourism dollars and look where that went.”

What do you mean by this? The hurricane took out New Orleans. Do you believe that this was because of the gays? That does not make sense because if a hurricane was going to take out a city because of gays wouldn’t it be San Francisco? I guess I am not understanding you very strange post.

I’m going to assume you didn’t know that New Orleans was known as the homosexual Mecca of the deep South. There were various homosexual festivities throughout the year, the biggest being the annual Southern Decadence festival, when homosexuals descend on the French Quarter to perform perverse acts in the streets. It’s interesting you brought up the hurricane, because that struck right before the S.D. festival.

Nah - they still need to milk those of us in the "irrelevant" middle class for all of the tax dollars they need to buy the votes of the poor, disadvantaged and the elderly. You don't expect those people to take care of themselves financially, do you?

Once the middle class is an empty husk financially, the sh*t will hit the fan, because all of those who depend on us to shut up and pay our taxes won't have the tax-dollar ATM anymore.

You guys slamming philly don’t get it. Philly is an incredible place to be right now. Housing has skyrocketed there, and continues to climb even as the rest of the country’s housing market has evened off.

For all of you who said only chestnut hill and manayunk are nice, what’s it like to get out of the burbs maybe once a decade? You obviously heard or saw something about Philly being run down about 20 years ago, and haven’t had access to any real-time information since.

It’s ponderous that you would even try to speak up about this!

Renovations in Philly are everywhere! Northern Liberties is a very happening place, and the beautification is spreading northward from there. University City in West Philly is gorgeous! The old mansions that fell into disrepair are being rehabbed and bought for millions. And it is all growing...

Evidence of possibility and life and renewal are all around the city!!

For those of you who still don’t get it... you can all get together at Sizzler or Outback or Bennigans, wherever you cultural wasteland types waddle off to on Friday nights, and reinforce each others’ beliefs in outdated complaints about a city that is actually a great place to be right now.

What’s this talk about Philly being “our” city? Your page says you live in Jersey.

And now you won’t even think to!

Actually, I just forgot to take out your name and put “all”. All the Philly bashing got me a bit crazy. :)
