You are putting words into my mouth. As I noted in an earlier response, I have qualms about the fertility industry. But try telling a young couple that their desire to become parents is as selfish as wanting the latest model car. I doubt they’ll agree.

Many bad things are done for good reasons.

Why do patients fall for this lie. If the woman was so ill or unhealthy to carry more than one child then she is unhealthy to carry one. The truth is multiple preganicies are most risky for the babies. These physicians who perform fertility treatments try to get women to ruduce the number because parents will SUE them if anything happens to the pregnancy because of the number greater than two. It is sick, sick, sick. But it is the lawsuit happy legal system we live in along with the technological ability to implant many embroys hoping only one or two will take and when all 4 or five do the physicians get scared.

You are putting words into my mouth.

Actually I was responding to the argument itself, not necessarily you. Sorry if you took it that way.

Many bad things are done for good reasons.

And what is the good reason here? It seems that the mindset from Day 1 would be to treat life, human life, as a commodity. I WANT a child. I WANT a girl. I DON'T WANT a boy, etc. What happens to us as a society, what happens to us as people when we treat human life as a commodity? The end is the debasement of the human spirit which always results in cruelty - intentionally or unintentionally. This couple started out thinking of these children as commodities and they threw away the ones they didn't want. I see nothing good in any of that and very little that would pass for reason.

“To be clear, the procedure banned by the court last month — intact D&E — was not an option in our case.”

So why even bring it up?

Alert ... Alert ... Alert ... Alert ... Alert ... Alert ... Alert ...

We are breaking into your regularly scheduled thread to give you this warning...

Do not go mountain climbing or sky-diving with an unrepentant woman who has had an abortion

In a tough situation she might very well decide you are expendable.

I shared this with my Mom. Both of us were entirely shocked. I also posted this on Pro-Life America forums, another pro-life board I frequent. (FReepers are always welcome there :-)) Anyway, I don’t know where to start. If she could only physically handle two children, why did they not only implant two children? I know the odds are greater the other way, but it is unfair to risk innocent life for selfish motives. I know that four of the children survived, and they decided to reduce for her health. I realize that she was in the hospital, but with bed rest and adequate medical care, did they do all they could to carry the children to at least viability? It appears that that they did not. They decided who to murder. They chose the sons because they “might” have autism. The girls were considered because abortion may be illegal, and they may be unable to kill future grandchildren. The father felt no guilt, shame, or sadness as his boys were being murdered. These people are selfish, cold, psychos who don’t deserve children!

I couldn’t agree with you more. Whatever happened to the multiple birth kids (she had about six) who chose not to “reduce” and had all the babies. They must be six or seven by now.

And what’s that on his head?

I'm thinking somebody ran out of pancakes and decided to use a funnel cake.

There aint' no third choice here.

Technically there is. It just wasn't available to them in this particular instance. If it had been, I suspect they would have jumped on it.

The term “reduction” has been in use in the context of aborting multiples for at least a decade.

We don't feel guilty. We don't feel ashamed. We're not even really sad,

... we're in denial.
