Pro-Life Activist Resigns From Pharmaceutical Company Over Abortion

Mt. Laurel, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- When former LifeNews.com staff writer Paul Nowak realized the work done by his employer, a pharmaceutical company, conflicted with his Catholic and pro-life beliefs, he turned in his resignation – even before locating another job.

“To me, there wasn't really a choice,” said Nowak, who had worked as a technical writer for the company. “I could not live with the idea that my efforts were aiding the abortion industry, not matter how distant or insignificant my contribution would have been.”

Though he could not comment on the nature of the issue, or his former employer, Nowak said that the nature of his position meant he was not involved in the company's service to the pro-abortion industry. However, he still could not reconcile working there.

“It is becoming impossible for a Catholic to work in the pharmaceutical industry,” commented Nowak. “It’s not just pharmacists and researchers anymore – now even those of us in administrative or other office jobs cannot avoid giving aid to those causes, namely abortion and contraception, which we morally oppose.

“Even if our employers do not deal with the abortion industry directly, their partners, clients, or other members of their strategic alliances may do so – and by serving one company we inevitably end up serving those who do what we believe to be wrong.”

Nowak is now planning to offer his services to the pro-life community as a freelance writer, particularly of press releases and other marketing and other media relations activities.

His background as a press release writer for the Franciscan University of Steubenville and as a staff writer for the pro-life news service, LifeNews.com, have given him the opportunity to hone his skills, particularly for Catholic and pro-life organizations and businesses.

“My family and I are certain that God will see us through this difficult time,” said Nowak. “Putting one’s beliefs into practice in the real world is not easy; in fact it is often a hardship. However, that should not keep us from doing the right thing when the opportunity arises, or more importantly, when the circumstances demand it of us. “

As author of Guerrilla Apologetics for Life Issues (ISBN 0977223418) and Guerrilla Apologetics for Catholics (ISBN 097722340X), Nowak is also making the eBook editions of those titles available on his website, http://www.dyinglight.com/store, for only $2. Print editions of the books can be found on his website, or on Amazon.com and other retailers.

Best wishes to the gentleman and his family. It’s a very courageous action.

“Even if our employers do not deal with the abortion industry directly, their partners, clients, or other members of their strategic alliances may do so – and by serving one company we inevitably end up serving those who do what we believe to be wrong.”

Based on this line of reasoning there are not many jobs he could do.

God bless him. My father resigned from the American Medical Alliance for about the same reason.

Um... That's a very fine line to draw. I understand if one is directly aiding and abetting, but we're all about six degrees of separation from an abortion provider/proponet these days.

I guess from my POV it wasn't necessary to cause hardship for his family. Why couldn't he secure another position first, then resign? The article indicates he wasn't directly involved with any services to the abortion industry, so, although I respect his conviction, I'm not sure why the urgency.

I have to agree with you, especially knowing the fiefdoms and clicques that are the different subdivisions of NJ’s pharma corps. I mean, while a few companies are actively making their cash flow from birth control, most abortion and birth control pharmaceuticals are already available as off patent generics.

Seems strange too, because he’s setting up to make himself a blacklisted job candidate. Not to do with his views, but to do with his activism. just as companies rue the day Jesse Jackson/RAINBOW PUSH coalition buy stock in a company, people generally don’t want to hire an overt activist into their work groups.

But hey, his kids can still go to a state college.

Your beliefs sometimes supercede your comfort level and Mr Nowak elected to put GOD front and Center! In St Faustina’s Diaries Christ tells her the Most grievious Crime of all is the Slaughter of Unborn Innocents! He obviously didn’t want to be an accessory to a Criminal action in the eyes of GOD! Well Done!

With his parameters, however, we're all accessories just by walking out our front door. I applaud his heart in the matter, but his first vocation is to provide for his family. As long as he isn't directly involved I don't see the point in causing hardship on his wife and kids while he could be arranging for a new job.

Good for him. It’s a decision he will not regret.

To yield to the labeling of one's observance of the Right to Life a "Catholic belief" is to accept marginalization and invite the holocaust to continue.
